Why not wait to change this light until you are ready to sell? Put the money in the bank and have it earn interest. You may change your mind about the style within the three years.

I wouldn't bother, a light fixture will not make or break a sale. Whoever buys it may not like whatever you put there and will change it out, anyway. The last thing I cared about when buying my house, were the light fixtures. In fact, my house had one in a similar style as yours (brass), it didn't even phase me, I knew I would replace it, eventually.

The changes that you're speaking of to update this light is not worth it in my opinion. If you cannot live with it for the next three years then buy a cheap fixture that you can live with and bite the bullet and have somone install it...Good Luck!

Going into our new house very soon. And yes we're chucking out all the existing (new) lighting sellers have put in.

Waste of time & money. If you hate it replace it now since you’ll be living there for 3 more years , otherwise let any imaginary future buyers replace it with something more to their taste. I’m not crazy about the light fixture either, but I don’t like what you’re suggesting to do with it either.
