For two months now, I've been eying some adeniums at my local Home Depot. Priced at $25 each and being reds and pinks, not really worth the asking price, IMO. Yesterday it was very cold and rainy, with the overnight temps dropping into the 30's. Today I set out on a rescue mission. The adeniums were still marked $25, but the worker told me they scanned 50% off.

I asked if it would be possible to mark them down any more, citing concerns about the weather they have been exposed to. Employee said he'd go check with manager, but came back and said no dice. He said they would wait until the system discounted or they died, but they couldn't reduce them today.

I ended up buying three. One as a gift, one for me, and one to practice grafting on. However, several of the plants had large seed pods. I wanted to buy one with pods, but due to aphids , poor caudex growth, I decided not to. Having never seen a seed pod on one of my plants, I picked one that looked the ripest. When I got home, I cut it open.

Do you think these seeds will dry? Should I have let the seed pod dry before opening it?

I have not had seeds either. No seeds in all these years. Aren't yours outside in the heat. You would think they would cross pollinate. Good luck. Great buy!

Dain, I unfortunately haven't experimented with this situation. The pod above is my first pod ever. Maybe someone else will know more. I have always heard to wait for it to naturally open. It won't hurt to try and plant them. Seedlings sprout pretty quickly, so you'll know within a week.

I've seen a few posts about people getting the Lowes and Home Depot workers to discount plants. I tried one time with one that clearly had bad stem rot. I was going to save it. They were asking full price. Even though it was half dead the lady said they couldn't discount it. So dumb! I didn't buy it.
