I think a rug would be good so you don't scratch the floors moving the chairs in and out....however, the rug from the other room is a super bold pattern, so it would be tricky and compete.

1. Large, long buffet with a gorgeous large mirror above it.

2. Two lamps on either end of buffet.

3. Move the curtain rod to about 6 inches below the ceiling and go wider, so no portion of the window is covered with the curtain...makes the room feel taller.

4. Do a different, more bold curtain color (something you love (teal, navy, purple, pink, print) and tie that color in with some accents like flowers, table decor, and artwork.

5. Use simple, flowy sheers, then panels on outside you can close as needed.

This soft gray reminds me of chalky color - of walls of chairs? soft feminine nice imo.

Thank you all for the amazing input! I'm very inspired now and all your comments have been incredibly helpful. I will be centering the table. I will work on fuller curtains that are placed higher, my living room has teals so I'll be incorporating that into my dining room (loving the real rugs some of you sent my wa) . Great work with the table. Try the table using just the 4 chairs (two facing two) and slide the bench along the other wall. Somehow the bench is throwing things off, I think. Can you just give it a try and post a picture, please. It might make the room easier to decorate if the balance was working.

Then you can always pull the bench up if you need extra seating.

Since my walls are a greige color I went with these for dining room rug and chandelier. They have not arrived so I'll post pictures once arrived. Very similar to ones some of you suggested. I love the idea of a blue lamps too, thank you! I will try ceiling to floor white curtains to tie in with the white of the table. I do love a modern farmhouse look and am looking for wall art to tie these pieces together. Husband would like to stick to brushed nickel hardware as he's not a fan of the dark trend right now which is too bad.

Love your table! Where did you find your dining chairs?

I don't consider upholstered chairs farmhouse, so I would look for something different for seating.
I'd start rug shopping and find a rug in a color that you like and that is large enough for the space. Once you have that in place, your window coverings and art work can compliment the colors in the rug.

@everdebz, love your rug and curtain/sheet choices above! Go as high and wide as you can so the window is not covered when the panels are opened all the way. Maybe wait on the artwork until you get your bigger pieces in....? Do you have a long buffet yet? Wait to purchase artwork until the furniture is in, then work around it.

I think you definitely need a big mirror somewhere. Id' suggest over the buffet (rather than artwork). TJMaxx or Home Goods (if you have one near you), have so many gorgeous mirrors right now (about $100-250). Also, rugs and decor for budget minded people.... and lamps galore that are gorgeous!

Are you able to do some detail molding around the walls? You can do that for fairly inexpensive and it would bring so much to your space. Shiplap/bead-board type wainscoting, then mirror or wallpaper above that entire space. A large mirror will really open up the room....

Jackeline...your chandelier and rug are very nice choices! Is blue the color you want to introduce into the space? What is the diameter of your light? You can use a good size over that table...just want to be sure it won’t look to small....will you be adding a buffet or console?

Current situation, I do love the rug which has hint of silver and blues. I'm skeptical about the chandelier, I love it too but it may be too high up on the ceiling and small. I'll attempt to lower it if possible but we did cut a lot of the wiring and may not go any further down. This is my first attempt to interior design. and may have made a rookie mistake about not placing the lighting at dining height. I do want to incorporate blues into the room and upholstered chairs are staying at the moment even if it's not traditional farmhouse. Someone asked where the chairs are from, they are from my old table from Better Honms and Garden. Still going for that modern farmhouse with the metals. white curtains should be going up soon. Yes, I do want a buffet with lamps and some sort of art work mirror or other wall decor. Thankfully many have given beautiful options. Thank you for the idea of molding, I am seriously considering it. This group is amazing and every advice given is appreciate.

So sorry but chandelier is hung way to high. Should be 30-34” above table top. Your rug is also too narrow since when chairs are pushed back the back legs will catch on edge of rug. The rug is pretty so see if you can get larger size. I am not sure you need rug. It is very tight. I can’t see where a buffet will fit in this room. Don’t try to put more in this room. It will forever feel crowded. Good luck.

Chandelier will be lowered soon. Thank you for the input. This is an 8x10 rug, anything larger and it'll be too big for the room. The flooring is new and I didn't want to hide the beautiful flooring under a rug.

You will not be able to pull chairs in and out without catching the rug edge..you only need 1’ space of wood floor around the rug........you need bigger no question...or no rug..

thank goodness that light will be lowered....when a chair is pulled out to set at the table measure the room you have between the wall and back of chair...I don’t see enough room for a buffet? Take your measurements...

The rug seems to be to small to work with the chairs when pulled away from the table. If you are concerned about covering to much of the floor, maybe you should not use a rug at all.

Great advice. I have plenty of amazing feedback. I promise to lower the lighting. I am leaning on taking away the rug entirely and will add the rest of decor little by little. I think the rug is perfect in color, etc., but doesn't quite fit. The reason you might want a rug, is so when people move their chairs in and out they don't scratch your beautiful floors. I'd die if my new floors got scratched from people moving the chairs and bench back and forth. Can you return the rug?

You can also go to any carpet store (call around), ask if they have large 'remnants'. You buy the remnant (in the size you need), and then they can cut to your exact dimensions and bind/serge the edges. For a few hundred you'll have a custom size....

Idk but a rug that has bit of floor's color, not dark, but a toastier version of it -- could read more farmhouse ?
