Acanthostachys strobilacea.

I don't think so Rick, because when I enlarge the leaves they seem to be smooth on the edge and Acant. strobilacea have fine spines on the leaves as you can see in the picture attached.

Justropic - If you could post a picture of the plant in flower it would make it easier to identify. A picture of the whole plant and flowers, and a close-up of the flowers themselves.

Nev, You are probably right, the red flower/black berry comment should have suggested something else to me, It's funny how some plants look similar to me, I might have to start wearing those glasses more often. Cheers Rick.

Yes Rick - My wife told me this about my glasses some time ago but I kept misplacing them so she said I should "tie them around my neck" so I got one of those string things you can attach to them and ever since then they are always there when I want them.

As for the plant above, the description of the flowers is handy but I always find a picture of the flowers much more helpful.
