2 years later ???!!

LPP is a somewhat slow grower, will grow faster with part sun and well amended soil. But it's worth the wait, it's an absolutely stunning plant once it matures.

Give it more sun and water to speed it along.

One eye would be standard for the variety--it can take 2 years to grow a second division, so it's not economically viable to sell doubles. Many large, newly introduced, or slow growing hostas are sold by single division, and unless a seller states otherwise, that is what you should expect to get.

There is so much to know. This spring I thought I saw a pot at a local nursery that had maybe 3 eyes for 25-30 I forgot. I didn’t get t because I has just spent a lot of money on hostas.

Today at Tally’s there where 3 pots each 1 eye in it (got the biggest eye) they where $12. As I checked out I asked a few questions and the lady marked it down to $5.

did tellys cut the plant down ... i hope they used some sanitation between plants ...

Yes they cut all of them down. Must say I wasn’t happy about it and I doubt they cleaned the tools. I purchased 3 plants and they will stay in containers.

thought the shape of ginsu knife will look nice in a container, paisley-print-snais will go under in the garden anyways if it’s not in a container ... one last dance I would have love to plant in the front yard, but better save than sorry.

i have now probably around 35 hostas in pots to observe them

Au contraire! Here is my LPP, that I purchased from Naylor in late summer 2013. In 2018, it was at least 30 inches wide and truly outstanding.

Here, you can see the size and quality, second from right in the front of this garden.

Got this one from Naylor last year. Another one in a ground. Comparatively potted one did better although both were ok.

for A brief moment I considered to ask the cashier if she would let me buy the other 3 pots for $5 each also :-) but that would have been really pushing it ...

I didn't record the eyes on the plant Naylor sold to me, but from memory it had two or three to start (I will go back and look at photos and report back if I can tell.) . They always sell great plants in my experience. Luna Moth from the same order is just extraordinary.... It wouldn't be crazy to go back and get the other two. As the season is closing down, maybe they would dicker with you again.

Here is LPP, newly planted July 23, 2015.

Since then, I removed the sambucus nigra (behind, upper right) but it still is competing with 55-year-old hydrangea shrubs and its neighboring Gold Regal that is at least 5.5 feet in diameter.

Mine is growing backwards...After two years in pots I planted it and it was attacked by slugs or snails or both...

And last month a mole lifted it out of the ground...poor thing, it could be such a beautfiful hosta...

Sometimes you have to be VERY patient. So many variables, with exposure, tree roots, bugs, etc. L. Paisley Print is one of the top 10 hostas from my point of view. Worth the extra effort.

the vole dug up all my hosta beds and finally became bored and went to another garden :-)

I hope LPP survives next winter, otherwise I will order a new one.

It really is a beautiful hosta and worth the effort.

LPP was one of the first named hostas I ever purchased because I was just so taken by its appearance. Fortunately it survives. But it is a slow grower for sure. Oh and it's also very late to come up so every year I think it's not going to. But it eventually does. It will probably do fine for you. Your conditions seem more pleasing to hostas in general.

Paisley Print is spectacular. I have mine in a pot. It took a year or so for it to really attain a large size, but it was soooo worth it.

i was under the impression of a Hosta is named “Hosta of the year“ it’s a good performer.

looks like it was picked because of it looks and because many people Iove it for that. I learn more and more how important it is to do my research on the plants Iam I interested. By example “Brother Stefan” .. pushed it way back on my buy list, because it’s not going to grow as fast as I want it.

I already got sucked in making purchases based on appearance like Thunderbolt, dream queen, dream weaver and great expections.

My garden is so bare, I want some soil covered in 3 years.

if you guys have reccomendations on good performers please share.

Well, another option is to just buy large chunk of mature hosta..

I absolutely adore LPP! I have one that I may move next year as it has struggled for several years. I think the dogs have altered their usual routes and have compacted the surrounding soil a lot. sigh.

Wow.. you must have large dogs. I have a boxer.. she did do a lot of damage on evergreens we tried to plant as a puppy but fingers crossed this year she has been really good. Not digging and she stayed out of the beds.

She is 50lbs I guess she could make a trail too where nothing grows if she constantly walks there

Claudia, I bought LPP this year too, one eye but really beautiful. Slugs got it, so hoping it will be ok next year. But we should compare notes on HOTY varieties because I fell into a similar thought as you and bought a lot of those thinking they may have a better chance. My garden is bare too, most of my hosta purchases are only 1-3 years old so I haven’t really seen leaps yet and am an impatient newbie too! My favorites so far (on looks alone) are:

I really thought for a Hosta to get this title it’s a good perfomer, not fussy and just been grown over several years and it’s just show that it’s a solid variety. I read that of some others like June ect... oh well...

i got a piece of Sagae years ago didn’t care much about it. Spring 2017 I noticed how big and gorgeous this plant is and just not the typical green one that’s what set me out to look into hostas.

Sagae, Spartacus and shade Fanale are doing so well for me ... full sun not fussy and beat the deer so never eat on those.

The guacamole clan get big fast. I recommend any one of them if you want ground covered fast.

I don't have LPP yet, and haven't ever seen it in person that I recall. But the pictures are very lovely (manyhosta - you have the magic touch!)... I'm surprised though that it is HOTY, too. Most comments on the forum here have led me to think this was a fussy one.
