since you have that area to fill above your stove i think your granite would be too much, visually. i'd go for a completely plain tile.

no, just to the bottom of the hood. there is no obvious stopping point above that.

ETA i don't care for tile ending at the top of the cabinets when they don't go to the ceiling. nor extending to the ceiling in a column behind the vent, nor tiling over the cabinets... they are all a can of worm.

Yes, I would tile the whole wall around the hood. Your backsplash tile should match one of the lighter colors in your granite...I suggest the lightest gray.

looking at your other photo i'd say do either side of your window to the same height as the stove vent.

I would be concerned about the amount of movement in that stone. Could be a bit over whelming if carried up unto the backsplash. A simple clean tile would work and be much less costly than granite.

Here's an example with granite but it has much less movement than yours.

Tiling to the bottom of the hood may be enough. You could lay just to the hood, then see if you want to continue above the hood, but you probably won't want to once you see it. Since your cabinets don't go all the way to the ceiling, it would look a little odd to have tile to the ceiling next to open walls above the cabinets. You want to keep your focus on the counter tops, not the hood vent.

I would be very hesitant to use another type of granite. Either match or do something completely different like the subway tile you just posted.

Subway styled tiles are really hard to beat. They are available in a wide variety of sizes, colors and styles, pricing is very good and they are likely the easiest tile to install.

Yes, would be worth looking at something that matches a lighter gray tone from the counter. Would soften the contrast with the counter top.

Our granite is also viscount white. We went with a cream 3 x 9 subway.

I love granite and marble slab backsplashes but in your space I think a soft simple tile will really help to make those cabinets and counters take center stage.

cool.. but keep in mind that many people, such as myself, consider white subway tile reminiscent of dormitory bathrooms. Since that's what we had, then.

The glass tile choices look good. Whatever you do, keep it simple in tone. Some subtle movement is fine. And far better than dormitory bath white.

with cabinet of that color, absolutely not white subway tiles. everything else will be better than white. but since your counter has patterns, using the same material would be the best.

Personally, I do not find cleaning tile difficult. I suppose if you left if for long periods of time and did really greasy cooking, then? I vote for simple, however, would NOT do the same old, same old subway so many people do. I did like the cream tile in previous photo. Do not be afraid of grout, people!

Notice that back splash is combined with a plain black counter - not a busy one like yours.

I used the same granite (from the counters) for the entire backsplash, including the wall above two 30" ranges up to a full-width vent hood. It looked great.
Using matching granite solves the problem so many people seem to have choosing backsplash material.
Now I am doing another new kitchen and will again use the granite for both counters and backsplashes.

The by-word here has been simple. An arabesque tile is not so simple. The counters have a lot of movement so you don't want to repeat that in the tile shape or pattern.

When you're looking for a good match with either color or shape put the tiles against the back wall and then step back about 10 feet. Very important because there may be tiny specks of your tile color but those won't even be visable from a yard away. You want a good over all match.

I totally don't see dorm bath in either of these.

I have the subway white tile. I love the looks of it, but let me tell you....it has to be cleaned constantly. Especially being white.
