Agreed - if you do not want to grow AV's for show - and as far as I know you grow them for your enjoyment - 3.5-4" is plenty. In a normal culture - without disbudding - and force-feeding... only large standards push it. And large - are mostly vintage plants - modern AVs are very rarely fall into a large category.

Oops.. you are the person with a million starters... GOOD LUCK getting rid of them locally. People who are not in AVs... for them you will be competing with Optimaras from the big box store. So... you need to have them looking finished...so they all should be in good size pots, in bloom and preferrably in the plastic sleeves. And priced not too high. So - you do not want them to be huge, Remove the older leaves and keep them under control size wise.
