Design my kitchen. Please?!

I have four weeks to remodel my kitchen and I need help. (It’s a long story that involves extended family, Thanksgiving & hopefully a lot of wine)

There are only two things I know for sure - the space will have a dark hickory laminate floor and a whitewashed brick backsplash.

We will not have any upper cabinets.

We have stainless steel appliances, range hood, sink and faucet. (all new & need to be installed)

The room faces west and does not have a ton of natural light.

I would like white cabinets (all new & need to be painted) but I can’t pick a countertop. I want to go with one of the new 180 fx laminate countertops. (don’t judge)

Can you offer any suggestions? I’m willing to hire someone if they can work virtually (because I live in the woods) and super fast.

Here are a few pics of the current space and a few pics of kitchens I like.

I just need a countertop. That’s it. Who knew it would be so difficult.

Can you clarify a few things? Are you using your existing cabs, buying new cabs that need to be painted, or already have new cabs that have to be painted? Are you keeping the existing layout or do you want help with laying out the kitchen?

Do you have a picture of your flooring?

Do you like dark or light countertops?

Have you picked out a wall color and a white cab color...white is a wide range of colors/tones from cool to warmth.

Depending on your replies to the above questions, we might need more information to help., but answering those I posed is a start.

A four week time line for a kitchen remodel is not realistic. For now, patch up and paint the walls. Maybe get a moveable island for extra counter space. And definitely get more wine than you think you might need!

When the hub bub of the holidays has passed, talk to a reputable and qualified kitchen designer to explore your options.

All you need is a recommendation for 180 FX laminate based on your two inspiration pics?

(and no judging from me, I put Formica on my perimeter countertops in the new house we just moved into in June)

Calacatta Marble or Quartzite Bianco from here,

Your cab color should determine the possible counter choice or the counter determines the cab color.

It’s not so much about cooking thanksgiving dinner as it is that everything for our new kitchen is sitting in our two guest bedrooms.

I mean EVERYTHING except for the countertop.

Kitchen cabinets are new. I just need to paint them. I can’t really pick the right white until I have a countertop.

I appreciate any and all help. You are at the very top of my list of things to be thankful for.

The floor is Pergo Max manor hand scraped hickory. It’s dark. I attached a picture.

OP says she wants Formica 180FX countertops, white cabinets, and provided two inspiration pictures. Based on that, there aren't too many other Formica 180FX choices. And it should be easy to pick a white cabinet that goes with one of the two.

That said, Darra, I would try a sample of your proposed backsplash next to a large sample of your Formica before you go ahead with the backsplash.

I love them. We have marble on the island, but I wanted Formica on the perimeter. I had Formica in our old house for 25 years, with a piece of vintage marble on top of the dishwasher next to the range; it was great to set hot pans on.

I like Formica for the durability and price point, and also because as a family of five who aren't always easy setting things down, my nice plates and glasses have survived much better getting thunked down on Formica instead of stone : ) .

Becky, thank you! I have three kids, three dogs and a husband who is an amazing cook, which makes me the clean up crew. I really love the new 180fx laminate. Thank you for narrowing down the choices. Do you favor one over the other?

    On my screen, no.

Plus you really need to see things like backsplash tiles, paint for walls, and countertop materials on the correct plane to get the best idea. It's one thing to see a Formica sample hanging on the wall and another to see it set down on a countertop.

And you know your inspiration kitchen better than I do : ) .

You're very welcome, Darra. Have a great Thanksgiving, even if the reno isn't finished -- everyone will be happy just to be together : ) .
