Please ID these 2 Begonias! (Post 2)

This Begonia I bought at the markets. It caught my eye as I walked past, and I thought I would give it a good home. It has a nice red colour to it. I also need to propagate it as it is the only one I have. Just to safeguard, in case something happens to it.

This Begonia was bought at Bunnings. In their discounted area. I have had both of these for about 2 years now.

Any information you can give me on any of these plants would be greatly appreciated. Thanks so much in advance!

I grew the first begonia you list [with the red leaves] for many many years but don't remember the name of it. However I propagated it many times simply by taking a leaf cutting and striking it in a very well drained sandy soil mix. You don't want a rich soil, just sand mixed with a bit of loam or probably even pure river sand if you keep it moist. Cut a leaf off the plant with about 50mm of stem and reduce the size of the leaf by trimming right around the central part with scissors so that the remaining leaf is about half its original size. Then plant this stem into the sandy mix just up to the leaf and keep it moist. It takes a while, but a new plant eventually grows at this central point of the leaf. I don't know the second begonia but from the look of it, I would think it should grow from stem cuttings.

Another rhizomatous in the top pic.

The 2nd one has stems, so it's not a rhizomatous Begonia. If you ask on the Begonia forum, somebody might recognize it there if it goes unrecognized here. You could poke around on the American Begonia Website.

The second one is probably manaus and the first one looks like a Ross Bowell creation but there are so many red ones coming out in recent years that it makes it difficult to know them all, let alone a few.

Trailer. Pretty sure it is manaus but some sell it as Brazilian Gentleman or BoniBonita Shea

Thanks everyone for your answers!

Donna, your advice on propagation I will try. The last time I propagated the one on the other post, I just used potting mix, and chopped the leaf into little bits. I will try your method next time. I am a bit worried about using the sandy soil up here, as I live in the tropics and just don't think I can keep it damp enough with the heat and humidity. I might try your method in succulent mix, and do another with potting mix just to see what works better in this climate. Also you are right, the second plant does grow by stem cuttings. Thank you for your advice!

Hc Mcdole, thank you for your ids in what you think they are, because I simply had no idea where to start. I will explore the names that you gave on the internet.

Go through the old threads on this site and you will find many threads on propagation (including some of my own). If I can do it, then anyone can do it. Practice makes perfect!
