freshen up cabinets

Would like some help picking color to paint my cabinets. I thought I had it down to dove white or honey milk. My walls are honey milk with white trim. I like the combination and the honey milk is very similar to the creamy yellow in my granite. I like my granite. I'm unsure whether I will replace the doors to shaker style or just paint them. It's a small kitchen and the footprint does not justify the price of new cabinets. The pics don't show the paint colors true but the granite color does. I will add more pics of paint samples in the comments as last time I tried to post them they didn't go thru

there is a little sea salt slapped on the wall but I'm pretty sure I want to stay honey milk

I know a lot of you would suggest removing the cabinets over the peninsula but we need the storage in it, up to updating the glass and getting fun dishes

I personally adore honey milk, cream, ivory, etc. If you like it definitely keep it. I will say that cream/ivory goes fantastic with black (ie ivory cabinets with black countertops). Since you have creamy granite and walls, perhaps honey milk uppers and black lowers? Are you keeping your backsplash? It looks like the same dark grey that’s in the granite right? That could balance out all the cream if you do all the cabs cream. If there is any black in the granite though, maybe consider new black backsplash. Grey and cream can look really subdued and classy or lackluster and odd depending on the cast/tones and your finishes.

thanks for the input, I wasn't thinking black but did consider gray. Unsure about the backsplash, will decide after I decide on cabinet color. I kind of like backsplash which is actually green marble but looks charcoal. What I don't want is a dark hole of a kitchen. Granite may have a couple specks of black but you'd be hard pressed to find them

    White Dove or Dove White?

The white dove seems to match better with the white appliance. But I think either one would work.

I personally like the honey milk better against the white dw. The flash is not helping to get across how it actually looks. white dove to my eye looks dirtyish next to bright white and honey milk looks more of a real color, I brought home some sample doors for color testing of a medium to light gray and some dark. I am not going dark on any of the cabinets but do kind of like the lightest gray. Will try to get some bigger test color boards of the gray. Appliances will be replaced, but the dw is not very old and if it works out color wise after the cabinet update I may stay white, but leaning towards stainless

I am obviously leaning honey milk, just reading other forums where everyone is not happy with their creamy white. I first found honey milk when I found a remnant quartz for a vanity top and didn't like white/white with the top color. It's a graygreen and not only are the cabinets hm but so are the walls with white trim....hmmm I must like that combination

If you are buying new appliances I would recommend getting the new trend which is what they call "Black Stainless" or I've seen it called "Slate". It is my understanding that it is much easier to care for. I know it is definitely the "in" thing in appliances right now. I think it would look really sharp with your granite, which is very pretty btw.

Here is a suite from Home Depot:

    LG Black Stainless Steel suite

I am not recommending the suite, just presenting it as an example of the finish.

ok I will vote. I do think any of your choices will work well, but I prefer the honeymilk. Trust yourself especially when you say the photos are not capturing it properly.

Well, now it's between honey milk and simply white leaning towards simply white for the cabinets. The struggle is real!

Seems my project may be growing. I have our cabinet man from two previous custom kitchens coming for an estimate on replacing doors, And since he's here I'm thinking possibly changing out the uppers and maybe take out the cabinets over the peninsula and taking out the desk in the eat in part of the kitchen to make up for lost storage. I cut into the soffits years ago to see if I could take them out, I know there was some plumbing but I can't remember if it was in the one going over the doorway to the laundry hall. Guess I need to check again. I'm thinking I would have ripped it down it there was nothing in there. I bought two different led replacement cans to try. One of them has choices of 2700,3500 or 5000 while the other is 2700 but is supposed to be ge's best light with clearer colors and whiter whites..Who knows? Primed my ceiling this am so now I'm off to give a try and see if I see if I get more clarity or confusion.

first lights went in super easy and they are the 2700 only, seems much brighter than the old lights trying to decide whether to try out the other lights with the higher settings

just the under cabinet lights on

new lights on the window trim is simply white as are the sample boards on the side of upper cabinet and pantry

very little wall space in kitchen, to take down those cabinets and do storage where the desk/tv are???

    here are the 5000 lights

I hate making decisions, these have the option to be switched to 2700 or 3500 but the others at 27 only have smooth surrounds, easier clean, not that I clean a lot and can also change the surrounds(no cleaning needed, these have ridges, total grease catchers, Which should I keep? Guess I'll go try the 35oo setting

just tried the 3500, thought I had a winner but husband is in there squinting..Geesh. I bought a dimmer but didn't take into consideration if I can use a dimmer on lights that can be turned on from different switches?

    3500

one with ridges vs ez clean???

One with ridges gives me a lot more lighting choices 2700,3500 or 5000. They both have cri of 90, ridges is 700 lumens while smooth is 650. If ridges was smooth it would be the clear winner

I wouldn't really worry too much about the ridges. Just take a Swiffer to them once in awhile and they will be good to go. Unless you fry a tremendous amount I don't think grease build up will be an issue. I've been in my house for 32 years and if I have any grease buildup on the ceiling I am unaware of it. Cobwebs, yes, grease, not that I know of. I'd go with the greater options of the one with the ridges.

I do think it would be a good idea to take down the cabinets above the peninsula, it will open the space up tremendously. I would also make the desk area into a full blown pantry. I think you will find that a much better use of space. If cost is a consideration I would keep the cabinet doors and put that money toward the pantry. I think your cabinets will look fine when they are painted. I do agree with the other commenter that it is very difficult to judge the colours that you have presented. Trying to tell the difference in those subtle colours is almost impossible in these pictures, so you will need to trust yourself on that one.

Is that a closet next to the desk area? If so, you could incorporate it into your pantry as well.

WicketsMom the door next to the desk is the basement. New doors override taking down the cabinets over peninsula when it comes to budget. But hoping I can do both. I hope to gain a little more storage by doing a full height pantry where we have the pantry now instead of having a useless cabinet on top of it, and by having the cabinet over the fridge come out to lower cabinet depth, just useless when you can't easily access it. I put the ez clean lights back up but still undecided, the others were too hard on husbands eyes, so he says. I may stick one of the others in the center and see if that will make us both happy.

I must have misunderstood, I thought you were considering turning the desk area into a pantry to replace the peninsula uppers. That was where I was suggesting you put your money. So you are looking to completely redo the pantry and fridge area? Sounds like a better use of space. If they can't duplicate your existing doors, then, yes, replace them all so they match.
