Hi Pluto. It sounds like you have been doing all the right things and I'm sure your bulb benefitted from being outside. From your description, your bulb is evergreen and doesn't require a dormant period. Most of my bulbs are also and keep their leaves year round although leaf growth slows when the days shorten and the weather cools. I have noticed the type of total leaf drop you describe when the bulb has been allowed to dry and it drops its leaves to conserve moisture. In case you were wondering, the regrowth of leaves does not automatically signal flowering as most hybrids naturally flower in the spring. That being said, I have an occasional flowering year round and of course professional growers condition their bulbs to flower the first time at a specific time of year.

The only recommendation is that you buy a friend for your bulb as the get lonely LOL

Only problem with new leaves in the Fall & Winter is that there may not be enough light to strengthen the new leaves so as a result they often bend & flop over if not in a South facing window.

Other than that, I agree with Jody that it's fine hot having a dormancy.

I don't have a South facing window - my only choice is West. It grew and bloomed last winter, but the leaves did seem unusually long (maybe related to the lighting?). It never occurred to me that Winter isn't the natural bloom time - if I shouldn't expect it to bloom in the winter, when will it be most likely to bloom (if it does)?

Likely you will get a Spring bloom, but possibly late Winter early next year if your home is warm.
