Old walls have texture. How about new ones?

The existing walls have knockdown texture. It seems that the walls have been painted for several times in the past several decades and the texture is weak. We also have some new dry walls. I wonder should we also put knockdown texture to the new walls to make all the wall texture consistent? In fact, we prefer smooth walls without texture. Any suggestion? It seems cost a lot to skim coat the old walls to flatten out texture.

Not a pro, but can share my thoughts. We have both orange peel and smooth walls. The textured hides the imperfections. Not so with the texture. Is it a starter home or forever home? Kids, tricycles, pets? Just something to think about. It’s personal preference.

Might be a forever home. Now the kids are in early elementary ages. No pets.

If I were building new, I would not have textured walls as everything trendy soon looks dated. As we have remodeled, we have gone smooth as it will not go out of style.
