Post was cut off! Problem is with a table and Lamp between the two side chairs, people are blocked and cannot have a conversation. Well, that does not work! What suggestions might you all have to fix this? The ceiling is high and canned lights are not sufficient at night. Add a sofa table, floor lamp, I have no idea! Please help!!!

Thank.you GardenHo....I just tried suggestion and with that placement the chairs completely block the walkway to get to the back of the room. There is also only about a 10 inch space between the chairs and sofa's. Ugh. I did not realize how heavy those sofa's are, no need to work out for a while!

Have you tried two floor lamps for the left and right of the chairs? Perhaps oblong shade would fit back against the wall better than a round shade. Having the lamps to the sides will also show off your picture wall to better effect,,,and try something other than white ceramic for your lamps to add some color to the room.

I can’t tell how much room there is but you could try pulling both sofas back...enough to give room to walk thru. Then you could add a drink table the loveseat.

A pair of floor lamps on the outside of the chairs would provide light where you need it without blocking the artwork or conversation, and would free up the table for drinks, books, and what-not.

You need a larger table, so that it can hold the lamp and still leave space for guests to set down a drink or anything else. If you get a larger table, then you can slide the lamp toward the back of it so that it provides plenty of light without intruding between the seated guests.

I don't understand how the chairs could block a walkway, but the sofa didn't? Can you do a floorplan sketch?

• GardenHo...I can move the sofa to the right of the fireplace back, but not the other as it is a play space with an obnoxiously large basketball hoop and air hockey table!

• Pennydesign... Aha... So I moved the chairs up to where the two sofas previously met and there is now a walkway. Why did I not notice that?! For this arrangement to work, I had to move the right sofa back towards the wall. I will add a picture of this as well, though am not living the way it looks.

When my very honest children came home from school today and saw the new arrangement, the responses were "that's awkward" and " it looks weird'! I think that I would like some ideas for lamps and side tables. Suggestions have been made for floor lamps or even a smaller table lamp. The current lamp is 27" high. The coffee table has a gray wood top and metal legs and I stained the sofa table in a gray/brown color.

Smaller table lamp doesn't mean shorter table lamp, I think it just means a less bulky base.

I would look for floor lamps to either match the gray wood of the console and side tables, or white like the current table lamps. Sadly, ceramic is not a common material for floor lamps (since you said you love white ceramic), but you could get a white painted wood base. I'd get white shades that match (more or less) the current table lamps). I did some searches, but my favorite floor lamp for your space was $1400 and I though that was a bit over the top to suggest).

Replace the table lamp with a single floor lamp on one side or the other. Move the chairs closer together and the table forward a bit so it's easier to use. The table between the sofas needs to be heftier.

I love your serene room! I like the idea of a floor lamp with the table between the chairs moved up. I'd like to see a heftier round table between the sofas.

Groveraxle and Indomom... Thank you so much for the feedback! I have two of the tables in the attached photo. Could this work, even if I need to paint a different color? I think that it may be a bit too tall, but can cut down the height an inch or two with the circular saw. Love the mock up floor lamp, I think that is the direction that I should go.

I like that table quite a bit (cut down), but Grover is the pro here. She's always right on the money. :)

I like that table, too, Tilly. Cut it down so it's just a smidge below the arm of the sofa and you're good. BTW, I like your room very much, too. You've done a great job on everything except the overpowering lamp, but it's an easy fix. ;-)

Perhaps that lamp would go well on the white table...I can't tell the size of the table, but it might work...A kind of monochromatic look...

This was the $$$ lamp. Simple lines but not boring. The gray wood seems to fit your style and the base isn't too wide to fit your space.

I like the tripod lamp that Groveraxle mocked up, but had been avoiding lamps that are that wide at the base because I didn't think they fit your space size-wise. If you think the tripod lamp works, there are a few others I could suggest. If you are open to chrome/nickel/brass, there are also other options, but I didn't see any metals in your room as it is, so I kept my search to white or bleached wood.
