I love your kitchen! It's hard to see from the photo, is there another door our, or just the one door from the dining room?

You need an architect and/or a contractor to really tell you what's possible to achieve as far as opening any walls, to make you home an open floor plan. There's no way to give you advice with just pictures. Get started with professionals and quotes before you make any decisions. Good luck !

There is another doorway next to the pass through. I just don't like all the white. I feel like it needs a little color. There is probably not much I can do about its size. This is in a victorian style house from 1898 and any expansion to the outside wall would probably cost a ton and not look right with the rest of the house.

I also have an old Victorian home with separate kitchen. We did end up extending ours to the back of the house to get yard access (not sure if that is possible for you) but we chose to keep it separate from the dining room. What we did do that you may be able to was just widen the doorway into the kitchen from the dining room. By keeping the rooms separate I was able to add floor to ceiling pantries on the left side of the doorway looking at your photo.

To break up the white any chance you are in the market for stainless appliances? I think that would help. A colorful floor runner. Maybe some more substantial cabinet hardware (black?)

We are looking to update at least the stove to a gas one and could get stainless. We probably wont do the tile floors until we decide on the final floor plan in case we remove part of a wall. My wife is partial to red shades so we might look into using some shade of red but not to bright. Maybe a blue/red or an earthy red.

Please don't take out your wood floor. It looks great, but I would agree a new counter and slowly replacing the appliances will already make a huge difference. Elmira also offers fridges in different colours.

You could paint the cabinets a different shade to brighten things up. Or even just painting the trim, or that lovely bead board you have - any of those would add a lot of color. New countertops could do it too, but paint is pretty cheap and it's mainly the labor that adds cost to a paint project. If you did it yourself you could get a very different look for minimal expense. I'm going to beg you too not to change out those beautiful hardwood floors for tile. New countertops / backsplash, or just the paint could go a long ways. Lots of people tear out tile floors for hardwood, it's better on your back & knees & if that's an old floor you won't be able to get that quality of wood or workmanship any more.
