My worms don't like this year's pumpkins

Pumpkins have been the #1 favourite and be devoured in no time but not this year. I think the farmers are harvesting them early so they last longer, less damage in transport and handling by customers. My local supermarket offered them like 6 weeks before Halloween. Used to get many damaged/rotten ones @ a discount but, they stand the handling better this year.

I suspect, that just like many other un-ripe fruit, there's too much tannin to attract mites and other worm bin co-habitants to help worms with the breakdown. Those pumpkins wouldn't be any good for cooking either, I think.
