Back in 2017, I bought some key lime seeds off eBay from some dude in Texas. Only two seeds germinated, they both grew into plants, one died after transplanting (I put it in a pot that was too big too soon) and the other one, despite being in a 32oz. soup container, got freaking HUGE and keeps growing endlessly, even now.

Anyway, this past summer, I bought some "Trifoliate Orange" seedlings from some other dude, also off eBay. In August, I took two cuttings from the key lime and grafted them to the orange plants. One graft on one plant died off, but the other one has managed to take so far. The two tiny leaves on the branch slowly got larger and it even looks like a smaller bud/branch is starting to grow in.

What I want to know is, when should I remove the grafting tape? Also, how do I get the key lime branch to grow out and become the "main plant"? I did this experiment before back in 2016 with a Kumquat branch + trifoliate orange and the branch took, but I made the mistake of cutting off the branches of the mother plant and it died soon after.
