I think whether or not to do an accent wall depends at least partially on how you will furnish and use the space. I would be inclined not to do one here. I'd certainly wait till the room was furnished before deciding.

watch tv and entertaining area with a bar.. i've started painting with mindful gray just not sure if i need another color to compliment it, either darker or lighter. Thoughts?

Have you considered the bar area for a complimentary paint color? It's one spot that could be dramatic with paint and lighting. If so, I like the Homburg Grey 7622.

We recently finished our basement and have used Mindful Gray with a darker accent wall done in Gauntlet Gray. It's in the same color family as Mindful Gray. We used other paints in the same family for the shop area (Eider White/Dorian Gray for the walls with the darker as a wainscoating on the lower part and Gauntlet Gray for the unfinished ceiling). I chose the dark for the wall with the TV. The photo highlights the color contrast, but with natural lighting the media wall does not have high contrast at all. The TV doesn't stand out as a large black rectangle. The colors are not too dark for a basement, especially with your large doorwall.

I love it and have gotten so many compliments on it. I think your back wall would look really nice darker. With a large area it is nice to break it up with coordinating paint colors. I like it clean and simple without a lot of art work cluttering the walls.

Accent walls should be used to, well, accentuate something you'd like to call attention to, e.g. a gallery wall, a collection, or an architectural feature like a fireplace or built-in cabinetry. So first figure out what's going on which walls, and that will help guide your choice.

Thank you so much. The colors and ideas that you have each recommended is what i've been thinking but was a little out of my comfort level. I really wanted a darker shade as in Homburg or Dovetail, although gauntlet gray would also be nice. I like the idea of making the bar area a focal point with a darker shade. I thought about making the columns white with crown moulding, woodwork, etc. Thoughts?

Are you installing crown, baseboards, window trims throughout the basement?

Window trim, baseboard moulding, moulding around the doorways. Also a sliding barn door leading to a small art studio next to/behind the bar.

Sounds good on the trims. I would not recommend crown molding too. Also the columns would probably be better painted the wall color than white. Big project! Best wishes for your vision to come true.
