The half paneling on the right looks like an afterthought. I would remove it, keep the natural wood, and change the carpeting and painted walls to a color that works better with the wood.

Thank you. Do you have any color recommendations? The carpet was recently put in by previous owners, so probably won't be replacing that right away.

How will you use the room? Is that a light fixture at the right hand edge of the ceiling? That area looks pretty rough. Perhaps you could look for an area rug to layer over the carpet in a design combining the gray, caramel and other colors which you could use for accents and/or wall color.

Just an idea You could use the mustard or a shade of rusty red for the wall.

There are inset lights in the ceiling and then the florescents on the sides. For now it's going to be a play / workout space. Hoping to put a couch/sleeper sofa down there too. So would you stick with grays for color scheme?

Yes, but at least paint over the white paneling. That looks so country, which is not what the rest of the room says. Then add in other colors to perk it up for exercise and play.

The gray and the white are cool colors, the wood is warm. So you need to tie them together, such as a patterned rug or sofa. Maybe green? bright blue or teal?
