Recently bought a new house and I'm trying to buy a rug for the living room. For better or worse, my nicest piece of furniture is a big storage ottoman in a small toffee check pattern that serves as a coffee table. I really, really want a traditional bordered rug (persian/oriental style), but I'm worried it will look very clash-y under the ottoman. I didn't find many photos on Houzz that show patterned ottomans with patterned rugs either. Is it a terrible idea? If not, is there anything I should look for or avoid in choosing a rug? Any thoughts appreciated!
