to wallpaper or not??

Need help in my dining room! We took off the old wallpaper but I’m having a hard time deciding what to do now! It’s so hard for me to choose paint so the thought of coordinating two scares me. (Where it’s pink I’ll repaint). I don’t really want to match two colors. I’m thinking adding wallpaper - like the cool contemporary stuff. I love traditional farmhouse warm cozy feeling. What do you guys think? Wallpaper, and if so, ideas? Paint? And help! I love warm blues greens and grays. Nature inspired. Obviously the chandelier is going! Picture of flooring in the kitchen that will be laid in dining room.

Whether u choose wallpaper or paint really doesn’t matter as far as how hard it might be to picture how it looks. If u want wallpaper then go for it n cross ur fingers. Lol. :). think positive. I’m sure whatever u decide on will work out just fine. good luck.

You could send the lighting to me please, I would use it somewhere, I'll follow to what you come up with for your dining room.

Wainscoting is a rather traditional look. If you want contemporary wall paper I suggest removing the wainscot. It may be a matter of semantics though. Perhaps you could show examples of what you consider contemporaneity wall paper. It also would help to know what your dining furniture looks like.

you can paint the whole thing the same color, including the chair rail.

This Sarah Richardson floral wallpaper is lovely, and fits with what you’re looking for.

How did you enjoy the process of taking the wall paper off? Adding it again means putting yourself through that again sometime or the next buyer. Wall paper closes in a room. Is that what you want? I would consider removing the picture rail under the crown molding. Do you have an inspiration picture?

How about a black and white plaid wallpaper on the ceiling, all white walls. Practically anything else you could add would look great with it...florals, stripes, bright colors, muted colors.

Before you choose anything get thelighting done .That will help with seeing true colors and IMO you need to pick a style before making any more decisions. I think wallpaper in DR s is a nice idea

I could never have wallpaper because I love art too much. With wallpaper you're rather limited as to what else will look good on the walls. However, the work involved would stop me from even thinking about wallpaper.

Lots of people hate on wallpaper. If you've already had wallpaper, presumably you're not amongst the haters.

Farmhouse-y... warm blues, greens and greys...

    What about this?

It's Farrow and Ball. If you go check their website, it even recommends coordinating paint colors. It also comes in green, grey, and a blue and aqua colorway.

    Or a pen-and-inky Countryside Toile?

A Swedish stencil pattern, right out of a Swedish Country house?

A more modern silver tree pattern?

Something straight out of Magnolia Home?

What's your pleasure? Graphic? Floral? Scenic?

    Florals can be modern, too:

White ground or color? Grey, blue, or green?

love the last one Holly posted, the black and white. I'd like it better w/a wainscot.

    some ideas

Keep the picture rail. Those sorts of architectural details are a treasure. I like Beth's wainscotting suggestion. It's actually not a terrible DIY project, as long as you aren't MY husband.

I can also dig up some more wallpaper suggestions, if you give me an idea what to home in on. (I've been wallpaper shopping for my own new build - haters be d**ned! - and I have a pretty extensive Pinterest trail)

Ebay the light fixture, it's fantastic. Please notify us when it goes online :)

I think paint and suggest as the room isn't large, that you use the same color as in the adjoining room.

Dang, look at the prices for similar fixtures! Antique library lamps. I'd love to see it work it's way into your decor somewhere because that's farmhouse where I grew up!

It's a shame that those small tone-on-tone wallpapers of the past are gone the way of the Dodo bird. They looked wonderful with art on them, and the furniture and curtains always looked better. Broken color is more pleasing to the human eye than flat color, and that's what they gave one - subtle broken color. At least there are still stripes.

I'm not a fan of wallpaper that is the "story" unless it's de Gournay. And that takes a very large house and a very thick wallet!

Angliophilia what kind of wallpaper are you looking for? Lots of tone on tone available (damasks, swirls, geometrics) in large and small formats, but perhaps you're looking for a particular type of material.

If you don't find it at a U.S. store, try looking at U.K. :)

Thanks everyone for the advise! We finally replaced the chandelier!!! But for all who have said they’re interested in It- please help. I’ve been trying to gather information on It to know the value to sell it. Any idea where to start? How much you think it’s worth?

For comparison, I saw this one at an antique store this past week for $90.

I would not wallpaper that room. And in general, I would not wallpaper above wainscoting. Nothing will get you a more dated look faster.

I would loose the chair rail. I put up cork wallpaper in my dining room which has no floral patter. It makes the room which is traditional more modern. A sample below. It also allows me to hang art work without competing with the covering. My dining room is large with hardwood floors so I wanted something to warm up the space.
