Bathroom Remodel

last modified: 7 years ago

I recently had my bathroom remodeled and I do not like the vanity top/backsplash combination. Also the mirror is about 3 inches longer than the vanity. I’m thinking about having the backsplash removed. Suggestions are needed! Thanks in advance.

I agree. Too much pattern competition with the busy backsplash and busy counter. The light shades shouldn't hang over the mirror either.

Can you remove the backsplash and hand the mirror lengthwise?

I was thinking about removing it but I don’t know what all that would entail?

the mirror is too busy. too many patterns going on there. the countertop is busy, then you have a busy mosaic, then the geometric mirror, which is actually hung too high.

the towel ring may have to go elsewhere.

find a plain rectangle and hang it vertical or horizontally.

It's ok if you cover some of the backsplash

Yeah, the backsplash is overkill. Remove it and replace with a short piece of your countertop material. Then, turn your mirror 90 degrees and I think you’ll be pleasantly surprised!

Try the other stuff first... You will end up gouging up the sheetrock and having to repair it if you remove the backsplash. Remove backsplash as a last resort. I don't think it's the problem... it's the mirror.

    Just my thoughts :)

I will give all of the suggestions a try first before removing the backsplash.

I would suggest you remove the back splash and re-use the tiles elsewhere in the house -- perhaps as trivets in the kitchen or as coasters to place under drinking glasses. The mirror is lovely, so I would suggest you install white subway tile from the area above the sink and up to the ceiling. I also would suggest you have the width of the tiled area extend so that the tiles "frame" or "border" the mirror to showcase it properly. You do have many lovely features in this room.

The mirror is too ornate and way too large for the vanity. Use it elsewhere and replace it with a normal mirror no wider than the width of the vanity.

I agree -- the backsplash is too busy for the counter and the mirror is too big for the space. I would take the backsplash out, repair and repaint the drywall, and replace it with either a remnant of your counter (short piece) or a very simple short tile backsplash (a single color tile). I would also replace the mirror with a smaller, simpler one.

If possible we would remove the backsplash, and get another mirror that will work better in the space. Maybe try a longer rectangular mirror like we have in the images below?
