Julia Childs is a patent protected rose.

Hi rhizo, So I'm assuming I'm not allowed to root it? Okay, so you find a rose you like, make sure you know the name of the rose and research that rose to find out if it is patented or not? If it is patented, that means you can't propagate it? Does this apply in all countries everywhere?

I think you'll be fine rooting it. The law regarding the patented rose only really applies if you are going to be propagating and selling it as a Julia Child rose. While it is technically illegal to propagate cuttings from a patented rose, the law never applies unless you want to sell it. You could take cuttings and plant all you want, and even give them away, as long as you aren't making money off of them.

Besides, even if they wanted to enforce the law, who can tell that you've grown them from cuttings, and who will have the time to come and sue you for rooting a few cuttings?

Khatrisidhant, that is not correct. If the rose is under patent protection, it is illegal to asexually propagate (via cutting or budding/grafting) for any purpose whatsoever.
