There isn't. These are porcelain and most have rectified edges. Meaning they were cut to exacting lengths after firing. Lay most of these upside down? You will find they are not always perfectly flat . A bit of warp is common due to length.

I recommend you follow to the letter the installs recommended for the tile you are purchasing. That you get a pro install as well. That will probably NOT inply random, but a 33% offset, a specific grout spacing as well. Cuts are hidden under baseboards and the like.

Failure to adhere to instructions specific to these tiles can yeild a result you will not be happy with. At all.

IMO a dated tile and there are so many really nice floor tiles that are a lot less hassle to lay.

Perhaps the word here is "overdone" vs, dated. Either way? Not a DIY project." Hassle" is a very appropriate word, that much is certain: )

The tiles should be overlapped 1/3 = 16". Backbutter the tiles, apply the thin set linear (not swirls). You may have to use a tile leveling system for best results.

If you use a leveling system, you don't have to worry about the 1/3 overlap. That's because of the slight bow in the tiles, and the leveling system will take that out. As for your original question, I try and not use a piece any smaller than 4-5 inches. The larger, the better, and I wouldn't want to see a sliver piece peeking out from under the baseboard, but when it comes down to it, anything goes with porcelain plank. Keep in mind, I'm saying this after installing a 3/4 inch piece this afternoon. :-) (going to be under cabinets)
