are you talking about a Tray ceiling? there are many diff ways to do it

I even like adding more beams to make it look like a coffered ceiling in the deeper portion

Thanks a lot Beth for sharing the pictures. Yes I was referring to Tray ceiling, my GC calls it soffit/box ceiling. We did not plan for it and hence do not have any pictures of any ideas. This happened yesterday and so not much time to think about the solution.

We will be changing the furniture/decor. I will have 2 windows of 5(height)x3 (width), so the second and third picture matches somewhat to my layout. I will be positioning my bed in between the windows. My room is not very big so I will stay away from coffered ceiling as it may look to busy and heavy.

Basically I was trying to see if box/soffit/tray ceiling is in trend or it is old fashioned. So far we are leaning to option A. We will be confirming them by tonight.

Is this a new build not yet constructed because I think to raise the ceiling in the middle to 9’ would require quite a lot of work including raising the roof if I am understanding the problem correctly.

Patricia this is remodeling for my master bedroom, we are adding 2 more bedrooms and that will be 9 feet, they will be building a new roof and connecting to existing roof. The part where they will be connecting is the master bedroom and hence this change is possible for the master bed room.

i would def do A. having a 9' center allows you to have a much nicer light fixture or to have a ceiling fan disappear.

be wary of Pretty Pictures where the rooms are really 11 feet tall.

I would definitely do A, if you have the budget for it. Taking a room from standard height to 9' or more, even if just as a tray makes all the difference in the world about how the room feels. I love tray ceilings. They give interest and dimension to a space.

We have agreed to do 9 ft tray ceiling. Thank you everybody for the inputs.

Just for information , here is the cost difference.

For converting 7ft to 8 ft ceiling entirely the cost was 3500

For 9 ft the cost was additional 1500.

i'd say well worth it, it will feel very different.
