How many people do you need to seat? If 4 or less a 48” round table might be a good consideration.

Does the fridge need to stay where it's now? It looks like the heat behind it. You may be better off flipping them both.

It is a tight, small corner, so I recommend a round table with a pedestal base. Those two factors will make it easier for people to slip and scoot around the chairs and each other to get seated. The chairs will make a big difference too. They should be armless and narrow, and definitely not have wider fronts than backs. Check whether and how far they can push in. Given the very tight space, you'll need to choose both table and chairs very carefully. I wouldn't buy anything non-returnable.

Can the fridge be moved right --next to other door- then you might have space between fridge and wall for storage....and table wouldn't be in a hole.

Got to agree. Frid next to the door and a cabinet with counter to the left maybe even on an angle for more counter to use a micro or coffee station. A table with fold up extension(s) in the new open space.

I moved the fridge. But I don’t know if there’s room for a table. Gotta leave clearance for the fridge door to open, and to walk to and from the fridge. What do y’all think??

throw out that hideous desk, move the fridge back to where it was, and either do a built in L shape bench (you can float it or build it over the heater and vent it) or do a simple table and chairs, like this:

you need some lighting over the table, and some type of artwork or something on those walls.

Beth, I think you’ve got it right. This joint’s a rental, so I can’t build in a bench. I think it’s gotta be fridge back where it was + 48-in. round table + lighting and artwork.

ok then,,,a nice size round or oval would work. you could also put a free standing bench in there (and take it when you leave). this way you can push back the table, and the bench gives you an extra space if you have 5 people.

You could always ask the landlord if you make it would he buy the materials?

this is what I was thinking for the floating bench as it floats over the vents. top w/plywood and then get a cushion. or top w/paint grade wood and paint.

I'm sorry, I hardly ever disagree with Beth, but the fridge is way better in the second position. Actually, it's the table that's better with the fridge in the second position. I wouldn't want to sit in that hole, no matter how attractive you make it.

With respect, Grover, Beth’s right about the fridge on account of in the second position you can hardly open the fridge. No room to sit on the fridge side of the table. Fridge is going back on the left.

Get yourself a modern drop leaf table and a comfortable chair for when it's just you, then a bunch of stacking chairs like the ant chair that you can shove behind the fridge.

I think grover is right. The refer looks much better in the 2nd position; you have lots of room to place a table like she shows and still open the fridge, with lots of room for extending it when you have guests. A table behind the fridge in that corner looks very cramped and "stuck in the corner."

Yeah, the table's stuck in the corner. But trust me: If the fridge is over on the right, there's no room for a table when you take into account the need to access the fridge. I'll get a little round table and gussy up that corner as best I can and that'll be that. I tried it both ways and there ain't no way but the one way.

I agree, Anwar, the fridge in the first location is the most functional layout. You can put a small table and chair instead of the desk in the tiny corner. In addition to the table and chairs, you can put in the middle of the kitchen a small, narrow bar with stools so you can have extra seating. Something like this or similar:

Counting floor tiles--if they're 12"s@, it looks like you have about 12ft from front of stove to opposite counter,

You could do a narrow farmhouse table in the center of the kitchen a la an island.

Move fridge back to old spot and you could add some seating in that corner for people visiting you while in kitchen.

In the good old days, for a kitchen like this we had a kitchen table that sat in the middle of the room. It was used as a counter for rolling pie dough or cutting vegetables, then cleared off for eating. Would this work for you?

In my old house the table was was in the center of the room. I did use it like an island too. It was on a 5x7 rug.

That looks very nice. Could you try rotating the chairs so they aren't squared up (1/8th turn)? That would allow all the chairs to be pulled out instead of smacking into a wall.
