Enjoying a glimpse into all of your worlds.

Love that shot of Emmett! He's going to love tomorrow!

    Low key celebration here.

I love your Christmas Village, Robo!

I painted all my pieces years ago, before I married and moved out here. It’s my most treasured Christmas decoration. I also made the framed crewel Christmas scene then, as well.

First tree in new house. So much effort has gone into moving and decorating and rehabbing the exterior...I just don’t care if my tree is crooked.

    Beautiful trees everyone

I was relaxing this afternoon, reading with my feet up on the ottoman, when I took this one with the light coming thru the window. Our kids and grandkids came over last night. We are going to DD’s tonight for dinner and more gifts so most of the rest were already bagged up to take there

I'm headed out the door to Christmas Eve services at the small Methodist church in town. Merry Christmas everyone!

No big plans here at all. Nor was there big decorating. I decided not to set up the living room tree and instead got a sweet rose-gold tinsel tree for my bedroom. It holds a few vintage ornaments and I get to look at it every morning and every night. It’s my little bit of Christmas, and it works for me.

    jakabedy - perfect.

Wishing you a beautiful Christmas, Jakabedy

Jakabedy, such a simple, peaceful scene. Love it. I am truly enjoying all these pictures.

My kids’ stockings filled and left by the front door...

ETA just saw this on Facebook and it is my life.

First Christmas in our new house as well. We just finished tweaking the top half of our China cabinet (we're using the bottom half as a TV credenza for now)....added legs, new handles, new seeded glass. The village on top is Norman Rockwell I gifted to my mom in the 70's/80's (she loved Rockwell) and she gave it back to me when she no longer had room for it. Decorating the cabinet was done on the fly using what I had...no time to think up a plan or shop for new items.

    Love everyone's pictures, especially Emmett!

Mtn....love those Santa boxes....so hard to find decent boxes now and I won't use the folding flimsy ones stores give out.

    Merry Christmas all!

Pets and little children...Christmas just isn’t as much fun without them. Thanks for sharing yours with us, Robo.

I had a Great Dane years ago who would stand at the foot of the TV armoire and whine because she knew her Christmas gift was hidden on top! I had made the mistake of showing it to her days before.

    Merry Christmas everyone!

Here is our tropical Christmas tree, with a glimpse of my tropical backyard :). As you can see my long time holiday decor theme of nautical, seashell and Santa in the sunshine ornaments fits in quite well down here; the tree topper even says 'Christmas at the Beach' LOL.

Everyone will be here for our family celebration this afternoon, so since I got all my baking done over the weekend and have all morning to get the house and dinner prep done, I'm just relaxing and enjoying the calm before the holiday chaos.

Merry Christmas to everyone and hope you are having a wonderful time whatever you are doing, wherever you are doing it and with whomever is joining you!

Merry Christmas from the UK everyone!

Absolutely beautiful pics of your trees/decorations - thanks for sharing :) Love those of Emmett & Penny, Robo!

We are in a new (400 year old) house this year too and it's very much a work in progress as we bought it as a repossession that had been empty a long time. As a result we've not gone mad with the decorations. Our 'snug' was the kitchen until a couple of months ago....

    Our kitchen tree.....

Another crazy year meant late Christmas plans again. DH picked up the tree on Saturday, and it is so dry we will take it down Wednesday or Thursday already. But for now it looks good, and every gets an extra sprinkle--or pile--of needles in their presents. We'd better open them before they disappear under a blizzard of needles lol.

All so beautiful and Emmett charming as usual. Happy to hear from you Roarah. I don’t put up a lot of Christmas decor - just a few things. We put up a real tree at our cabin - it’s up from right before Christmas until the New Year. It’s a bit of a memorial tree with ornaments dating back as far as my father’s childhood. He was born in 1912.

Can someone please remind me to start a “show me yours” thread in the new year?

I really miss seeing everyone’s interiors (and exteriors for that matter). I miss the Garden Web years, when I seemed to see everyone’s decor on a regular basis. I think we need an update for those of us not regularly on the other side.

    Beautiful photos!

Here is the tree that has been giving DH's allergies a problem. It has been better the past few days. Same as bpath, it is getting pretty dry. Kitty sunspot approved. I really like having the tree in the kitchen eat-in area.

It's just us, MIL, and the kitties.

LOL on the crooked candle. We don't light them anyways.

Here are a couple more pics of my minimalist Christmas cabin decor. I just got back here after Christmas with DHs siblings.

Thank you all so much for this thread. It warmed my heart, particularly as this has been a difficult season. I've loved seeing all of your pretty, twinkly decorations! We didn't put out any of our holiday decor this year, knowing full well our two latest feline additions wouldn't give any of it a moment's rest. I've missed having my decorations out (particularly the tree), but I must admit I won't miss having to pack it all up and put it away! Perhaps next year our kittens will have become a little less curious and we'll be able to display our pretties once again. In the meantime, it's been nice to see what you all have created in your homes.

I love seeing all the photos! So many perfect trees! GW'ers take their trees seriously!

3katz - your "cabin" is gorgeous! Pretty fancy for a "cabin"; is this like the Newport "cottages", LOL. Love the ceiling in the DR especially. Ornaments from 1912 - id love to see some up close.

Gscience, homemade perogies!? Oh yum! What kind? Did you ever see that perogie press contraption. I bought one, never used it, and gave it to a friend's Polish au pair.

Bpath - I had a tree once at our lakehouse that was so dry, you could hear the needles dropping on the wood floor! I was so mad. At least yours looks good!

RaphTheSpWD - OMG, are you an artist? I adore, and keep going back to look at, the shot with the Siamese cat print. I love the non-tradl Christmas palette in that shot! Stunning.

Running in place, your tree, (and matching wrap!) is just a gorgeous confection.

Joanie, brilliant repurposing of your china cabinet!

Sue, are the stockings always by the (gorgeous) door? What is next to each stocking? and is it me or are your tree lights particularly large?

Spanish - i love your K. The floor! what color are those cabs?

Ded, those colored lights look so pretty. Maybe next yr I will switch!

MAddie, Murphy looks happy there. Your room is very pretty, very "Williamsburg"

Daisy, Beautiful family! Beautiful kitchen. Did you ever slice the apples after all?

Catticus, the cats look blissful. what is your tree skirt? OMG it looks like white fur. Mine is burlap because I can't find any I like.

OLy. your mantle is gorgeous. What kind of garland do you have, it almost looks like pine rope?

Schoolhouse, Pretty picture. I thought you had 3 trees, then realized one was a reflection!

Czarina, love it the corner w the windows; are you on a lake?

Jaka, A rose gold tree did you say? I've not seen that. Love the idea of waking up to a tree, tho! So sweet. Another gorgeous ceiling, too.

Nini , so pretty. Do you put your presents there, too? I love trees in halls except for us it was less comfy Christmas morning.

Wow, Mtn, what a great reply summation!

No, not home-made pierogis. Fortunately for me, there is a Polish deli about 10 min from my house, so I get them there. They are a huge production to make, good for a large group kind of like how tamales are made.

When I was in grad school I had a friend who’s grandmother made pierogis every Christmas. Even though she shared her recipe, we could never make them as tender and delicious as Grandma Mary’s! Thanks for bringing back fond memories.

I'm late to this thread, so confess I zoomed through for the photos. Love them all!

Mtn: What color is your wood trim?

    Hi Bunny,

You know how the Eskimos have 100 words or something for snow? In my house, there are a 100 words for white. I used different colors in different rooms, but they were almost all Farrow and Ball and almost all white (ish). Which room and which trim did you mean?

How about the wall behind the tree? And the fireplace surround? If there are many whites, they all work beautifully together.

not sure how this got here...

So just under the wire was the total truth for our day. I barely made it. We don’t do gifts, so I forgot to get a pic of the tree. And all the cra...stuff the went into my DH’s office is back out.

Mtn- thanks the floor is by Arto Brick and the cabinets are Omega Dynasty in Pesto

Here’s what I did remember to capture photos of...

Grandmas’s dishea that I use but don’t love.

    Picked eggplant

Lamb ragu with mint and ricotta. I missed the roast chicken and spinach with crispy chickpeas

Almond cake. I missed taking one of the ricotta cheesecake that was fabulous.

    The things I forgot

And my best deal of the day yesterday (add another 25% off for clear the rack!)

Bunny, The trim on the fireplace in the room with the flocked tree is Farrow and Ball Slipper Satin. The wall behind the live tree is FnB Pointing.

OOh, lamb ragout - id love to see that recipe. And what did you buy from Nordstrom? I can't tell

Here’s the recipe for the pasta. Except for the almond cake, everything was out of this book and it’s all really good. I cooked the sauce on low for about 3 or 4 hours.

    And my Akris top

We have had a most enjoyable Christmas here, starting with a pre-Christmas dinner party:

    Our Christmas table for 12

We had a separate tables for the punch, sparkling and still water and one for the wines. I have never done this before, but I set the table sans glassware and kept the glassware on that table for people to chose, and to take their choices to the table. Worked great!

Pioneer Woman's mashed potatoes made a repeat performance as a base for Braised short ribs of beef. Also had spiral ham, green beans, DD's yeast rolls, salad of Boston lettuce. Dessert was Buche de Noel (also made by same DD) and Olde English Trifle (Silver Palate cookbook), Spritz cookies and homemade fudge:

We started out in the living room:

    Billie enjoyed lots of love:

Thanks schoolhouse and mtnrd :) No, not an artist.... I wish, lol, although I did study fashion design years ago.....

I took my tree down today. No waiting till Epiphany for me. I'm ready for springtime and longer days.

Beautiful photos GW's - enjoy seeing your homes decked out for the holidays. Quiet one here but thankful & blessed. Thank you, friends, for sharing!

MtnRd- those are fabulously handsome gift boxes (Santa Claus and Co). May I ask where you found them?

Mtn, our tree lights are the standard little white lights — probably a camera trick! Santa used to leave stockings by each kid’s bedroom in our old house, but apparently switched it up at the new house. ;-). Those things next to each stocking are boxes of caramels from Trader Joe’s! Yum.

I have been puttering around the house today putting away some of the Christmas decor that’s been up since Thanksgiving weekend — tree will come down this weekend. As much as I enjoy the festive decor, I loooove getting rid of it too! It gets too cluttery.

Mtn - is that the same flocked tree you found at Terrain last year? How on earth did your store it - it still looks great.

raphaella, would love to see more photos of your 400yr.old home some day.

Penny Waffles the dog ate a buche de Noel yesterday. It was chocolate but she has suffered no ill effects.

OMG, Robo, that goodness she’s ok!

Penny should have responded to the “do you buy yourself a Christmas gift” post!

For robo: when my oldest was not quite 3, he'd been hearing for weeks how "it's Christmastime, Christmas Christmas Christmas" so when presents appeared under the tree days before the 25th, I came into the room and saw him opening gifts. Um, DS, what are you doing? The long discussion led to "but Mommy, WHEN is it Christmas?" We established a code phrase, can't remember now, for "NOW it's Christmas, Merry Christmas, let's open gifts!" Poor kid!

When we started hosting the extended family on Christmas Eve and had several littles over, the visiting young 'runs would sometimes peek in the presents, so we stopped putting presents under the tree until after midnight when they'd all gone home.
