Fig ID Question for Martin

Hi Martin,

I purchased cuttings from you on Ebay several years ago. Of the three BM cuttings I purchased, two rooted. The first is purple and the second is greenish purple. I would appreciate your help determining what variety of fig I ended up with. They are both great figs and both have done well in my climate.

I do not know what that fig type is it does look similar to a brown turkey spade leaf shape i had in the early1990s for several years . Back when i was selling a few fig types i sold very very few Black Madeira's and that does not look like Black Madeira.

Thank you, Martin. What about the purple one at the top? I appreciate this.

    Uteas,

The dark one kinda reminds me of several types - dark portuguese or sals fig both that were grown here but discarded around 2011/2012.

That light color fig is something i never ever grow its a long story going back to my childhood growing up with figs. All my figs are Dark purple types always. In short i never have grown a light colored fig .

Jolly tiger a variegated fig (Chimera class) and no longer have died in storage ,teased quite a bit in past because everyone said Dieseler has a light colored fig - but wrong although it looked like a panache with its stripes that faded as it turned purple when ripe a large fig whose taste was bland on personal palate. But absolutely beautiful leaves.

Is it possible you had other cuttings and somehow root what you thought were mine i have to ask because that light color fig is just something i never had and yours looks ripe not early picked.

I appreciate this thoughtful response and your help in identifying my figs. I made the purchase on Janueary 18th, 2014 for $49.80. The first name on the Paypal invoice was Maria and the email address was an AOL account. I'm like you, I'm not really in to light colored figs. I purchased Sefrawi from Bass two years ago, but that is the only white fig in my possession. I was very careful about purchasing figs from reputable buyers like yourself. Anyway, let me know if you have any additional thoughts. I will send you better photos this summer of the leaves and the figs themselves. By the way, neither fig was light colored, one was more greenish purple and the other was very purple. Both are fairly cold hardy -- I don't think the dark purple one has ever died back. I'm grateful to you for your help.

Uteas thanks for the above confirmation on the first two sentences.

Look forward to those new pictures when time comes.

If there was a mix up it will be next dormant season or the following one will replace the scion you bought reason being i lost the elder's younger sibling last season it never woke up, the elder i had posted this past season was severely damaged and did not show life until mid August.

I kept pruning elder's dead wood until all was left was the trunk which was shortened as

well then from that trunk a few sprouts that grew a few inches outward before season ended.

Will post pictures this spring of Maderia hopefully showing any growth .
