Question on adding drapes over wood blinds

Think I’m Finally going to add drapes to my boys’ room (and stop using the brown sheet to block the sun). It faces east so want blackouts to Keep Sun out at bedtime, naptime and (early) morning.

I haven’t done it yet out of fear that it will look bad and be an issue with the bed.

my mom suggested A curved curtain rod so that the curtains can be entirely past the window and lay against the wall. You can also see how close top of bed is to bottom of window. there Is also a chance a bunk bed will go here in 1-2 years When little one is out of crib.

Would like to hear thoughts and suggestions.

Hello juliesediq,

You don't need a curved rod. I have straight rods over blinds in every room of my home. Most rod brackets extend out 3-5 inches depending on the manufacturer. Select one that is at least that far out. Are you going to use rod pocket drapes or a style that has a different heading? That will make a difference in the brackets as well.

A curved rod really would be best with a bed next to the window like this. I bought some at Walmart for $14 or $19 I think. Showing houzz photos of similar and basic old fashioned ones that are maybe even cheaper. Could you turn the bed against the other wall? Or just pull at least the foot of the bed out for drapes to hang behind. Or get short drapes.
