the problem with the door is it doesnt fit properly in the space. its very noisy, it sticks etc. just looking at other options!

Keep the door style similar. I prefer hinge doors over bifold doors.

You can get two narrow hinged doors. I used them for a bed & bath room because of limited space for "the swing". It was a great decision and love them. Yes, they are raised panels.

could someone show me an example of what I could do with a hinged door? I think only one would fit in the space... as 2 would conflict with the front door I think.

It’s strange to have two doors which open into the same space that way. Could you reverse the direction of the closet door to open into the closet, or is the closet too small? Does the closet have another wall in the entry where a door could be placed and the original removed and sealed up as a wall? Could that entry closet space be taken by the room behind it and the original doorway be walled up? Do you have space in the entry hall for a hall tree or closet armoire?
A mirror immediately inside the entry might not be an improvement. Removing the door and closing up the wall would look better in the entry.

Felizlady it's too small and there is no other possible wall/ space for it. it has to be where it currently is

This is a prob a 32" opening. The doors came as a unit and I installed them. I think they were a special order from Lowe's.

I looked closer and saw that the closet door is bifold. It’s still odd right next to the front door, and you still have to close the front door to use it. I would still want to relocate the closet door if possible.

felizlady. I wish we could but with limited space it's not an option. would you prefer 2 doors that open side by side or one.

re kitchen. Your living room is lovely...Yes try some blue. Blue hardware would have worked also. Maybe at some point you could change them out.

how about trying bright blue placemats. (not too dark) or blue large bowl, tea towel, blue container for plant, large blue candle sticks, there are lots of options..On my monitor, the floor in Living Room seems very close in color to your kitchen cabinets so that also brings the rooms together. Having a touch of blue in most of your rooms will really bring the rooms together. (I hope it is your favorite color) :)

re closet door. does it just require an adjustment. take a really good look at it. looks as if it might need to be raised a touch.

Maybe paint the front door and add bright rug, make that a focal point, then you would hardly notice the closet doors or open it up like pic below

I'd paint the front door a deep color and find a nice rug for the entry.

For the closet, a few ideas,,,

you could try the double doors, a better made bi-fold door, or a single door

however, do you actually use that closet? Is it a necessity? I found a few ideas on how to revamp it.

basically you remove the doors and fix up the inside. (this is pretty basic, below, but the others above are a bit nicer) I like the one w/the bench, pull out drawers, and hangers for coats.

A few ideas for you to think about that would be appropriate for next to your cabinet. hope it will help your decision making. CC see how there is very little white. These all would complement your table and cabinets.

Beth H has some great ideas ..about leaving it open and NO DOORS !! If you like that idea and those suggestions look too casual ..make it elegant with a mirror , a seat and some hangers ....I think this may be your best solution ...and could look great ...

I'd still like a door. do you think 2 doors or one bigger door would work.

One door with the hinges on the right as in Beth's first pic, you don't have room for 2 doors as in Furniture Re-born's pic - there is nowhere for the left door to swing and it wouldn't open all the way.

I would do sliding doors

If your only complaint is that the door sticks, and is noisy, you can use a solid lubricant on the track, and a spray lubricant on the wheels. If the door is not mounted properly, which has an effect on the fit, it can be properly rehung. A handyman can do all of this, if it’s above your skill level.

Either fix or replace with a better quality bifold or similarly styled sliding paneled door. There really isn’t room for either a single or double swing door. Mirrored doors would be a step down, and sliders will have similar issues to bifold, so of those two choices, pick the one you prefer aesthetically and functionally. Bipass sliders will have a narrower opening.

I think a single door with a handle that opens to the right would be best... there is enough room for that I think.

I'd fix the door so that it opens smoothly and possibly paint it and its trim the same colour as the wall. Don't think mirrored sliding doors would be an upgrade.

ETA: Just saw your post about a single door. Measure carefully. Looks like a single door would be pretty awkward in that entry.

Sliders are good option but I think you can look into retractable pantry doors as an option because they slide back in the cabinet when open and don’t stick out in the hallway. Kitchen manufacturers can do it for you in any style you like.

I think you should sketch out your front entry. I just did a rough sketch (not to scale) and I don’t think any other door will fit besides the bifold.

Since the closet is a stand alone “room” and only likely 30 inches (or less) deep you couldn’t put a door anywhere else and access it, the closet must be accessed from the current location.
The only option I would go with is use one of Beth H’s suggestions and hang a curtain (a classy looking one). The single door opening to the right will have to be opened almost fully to access it and I think will really negatively impact the flow of traffic more than the sticky bifold door (I hate bifold doors so it pains me to say it is the one that I think fits because only now do I understand why they were invented...for entries like yours and small bedrooms). Lol

I think based on the tiles and the reflection in the mirror that the entry is 48” x 48”. The front door appears to be about 30” and the closet is about 28” and both are centred on their respective walls. Each quarter circle you draw showing the swing of the door from the hinge will give you an idea of where you would have to stand while opening the doors.

The console table moved around the corner at the end of the closet might give you a little more space to move and then make the bifold door a little less annoying.

I do like KK1000’s suggestion too.

Hiya, I just spent one whole year trying to find a house to buy and the ones that stood out the most had an open concept entryway like BethH has mentioned. Hooks, bench seat and baskets. Unless, you need to hide a vacuum, an open closet is very efficient and can be personalized.Good luck and enjoy the adventure!

I hate sliding doors. They allow access to less than half of the opening and this looks like a rather narrow opening. I have bypass sliders in a 48" opening into a pantry and would much, much prefer bifold doors. OP's closet opening is much less than the 48" that I have.

I have the same darned sliders in two bedroom closets upstairs. Fortunately, there are bi-folds into the closet in my room.

The drawback to sliders is they allow access to only half the closet at a time.

The sliders do limit visibility of everything but they don’t impact traffic flow. I think they would be a great option. Someone suggested a roll away slider, which I have never seen but that might be worth considering.

I am glad that you are looking at other options. Having two full sized doors (outside and closet) that both open into this small space will be a nightmare. People will come into the house and will have to walk past the closet far enough so that you can close the main door and open the closet door wide enough (180 degrees from original) to then walk back into the entry to use the closet and then everyone has to again be out of the entry before the closet door can swing closed. Totally impractical.

would the retractable sliders have the space to retract into the closet without redesigning how the closet rods fit into the walls?

just wanted to chime in about how much I dislike sliding doors too. Was so happy to remove from from 2 homes I've lived in. Hinged or bifold doors are so much better, as you can access/see everything at once.

I’m another vote for bi hinge (not bi FOLD)

My 1981 built house had bi folds everywhere, managed to get rid of most (remodeling the guest quarters next year will eliminate the rest!)

Sliding only allows access to a third of the closet at a time as the doors overlap. Completely impractical on a closet this size.

Not having doors would never work for the varied items I keep in my ‘coat’ closet- umbrellas, jackets, shopping bags, flag, bike helmets....

I like what you have, bifold doors can be good space savers, still letting you have access to the whole closet. Taking the doors off, like the photos above, is also a cute idea if you don't have a need to hide anything. Another really inexpensive option is hanging curtain panels.

I think it looks fine. Definitely don’t do mirrored sliders. That is so 1980! Leave as it is and spend your money and time elsewhere.

Where would they slide to? The opening is only 28" and when you split it in half for sliders, you'll be left with an opening that's little more than 12" wide. That's ludicrous. Use some common sense.

It could work if you put a frame on it and make it 25-30% bigger but it might be costly , you can get a quote.

that picture is great. don't center it. keep to one side. not all art needs to be centered or framed. cc if you have a thick hardcover book you could raise the lamp up. hint: bottom of lamp shade should be shoulder height of person when sitting in chair. :)
