Seeking plan plan guidance

Looking for feedback on this space. I have the hardest time visualizing things on paper. TIA!

It’s a little difficult to read, so I might be mistaken; where are the dishwasher and fridge located?

Your seating overhang appears to be too shallow--NKBA recommends a minimum of 15" for comfort at counter height. Your aisles are already the NKBA minimum for a work aisle for one person, and less than recommended for a traffic aisle behind seating--especially with back-to-back seating. If the rectangle with broken lines is optional, I'd leave it out.

I second what Mamagoose said about your island overhang. The island seating seems a tad skwooshed. I don't see wall cabinets around the sink. Where are you planning to store your dishes and cutlery?

what is the existing situation? A U shape kitchen with 6 feet across the U will allow a nice deep peninsula side with overhang and about 9 feet of length for seating. Put the fridge on sink wall, shift sink to the peninsula side of U, and create more comfortable generous seating.

I should have provided more information. There is no wall where the sink is. So no upper cabinets there. We removed it and are inserting a steal beam. Dish washer is near the sink. We also removed a outside wall to expand the old kitchen and are installing additional steal plates. There is very little space for upper cabinetry. This is a new space. The plan is for the fridge to be next to the slider.

Feed back on island space is very helpful. I pushed for the island to accommodate 5 but maybe it’s not realistic. I need to examine that more carefully. KD comes tomorrow. Thanks all!

Seating for four would be better for flow--but does that leave out someone in the family?

    GW discussions--dishes in drawers

Dishes definitely in drawers. Island for 4 works best but yes it does leave someone out. Sigh. We have removed 2 walls and rebuilt a room. Oddly, we only increase our total square footage by 200. We are still trying to make the most of a modest space.

Can you use a bench in the dining area, so the table can move down?

If you do not plan an island prep sink, I would switch the sink and the cooktop: fridge, sink, counter prep space, cooking zone is the most efficient perimeter working order.

Since you are basically using the area infront of the slider as a walking space with some comfy seating on the wall, I would have 48” aisles like mama goose shows, a 15 inch overhang (you will not regret either of those), and extend the island so the counter edge lines up with the fridge cab like you showed in your plan but with a 15” overhang not 12”. If you crowd the door more by moving the fridge down slightly, you could lengthen the island a few inches, but I do not think that is a trade off I would make.

I would move the dishwasher to the other side of the sink with the wider aisle
