Do it! I just painted the interior of my front door real this past weekend teal to give my foyer a pop of color and love it!

Maybe you can paint some sample boards and prop them up to get a feel for the space before you paint the entire wall.

I say go also. A nice rich dark teal. Don’t go too light.

I agree with cpaul a color for an accent wall needs to have some connection to whatever else is going on in the space.Take the stuff out of that area and lose the shutters and add a nice roman shade or bottom up blind in a color maybe . I can’t suggest anything without seeing the rest of the house or at least the entry where the stairs are.

To my eye, accent walls create a random, choppy look and are nearly always undesirable. I wouldn't paint this pretty space. Just leave it as is.

Color is fun. Try a turquoise vase. On a practical note, painting a test wall is much easier if you pick one that doesn't need an extra tall ladder or scaffolding on a staircase. A good place to try the turquoise wall idea is a bathroom, bedroom, or laundry room.

I would remove the pedestal & vase, center the bench and not make it an accent wall.

Thank you everyone! Great feedback. Like I said I've never been a fan of an accent wall, but for some reason I thought one might look great there! :)

The stairs will be changed this year as well. They will no longer be the honey maple color and the carpet will be gone. Maybe I should wait until that the stairs are decided on and done before deciding on the accent wall?

We will also be hanging a fancy chandelier from the ceiling in that particular space, so thought the combo of turquoise and an ornate chandelier would create a nice space.

@ Patricia - WHY would I take out EXPENSIVE wood shutters and put in Roman shades? That sounds absolutely insane to me (not to mention that I never asked about what to do with the windows treatments)!
