Andrea,

I fertilize year-round. I only hold back fert. on orchids that rest/want no water during winter. All bloomers get fert. weekly, every 4th week they get flushed with plain water.

If you are using a fert. made for orchids, use at the suggested rate. If fert. is not for orchids, use at 1/2 of recommended strength.

I really don't understand the thinking behind no fert. when blooming? Most of my blooming plants are growing and adding leaves and roots while blooming, so fert. helps them grow and strengthen for the next blooming. I've never noticed where fertilizing a blooming orchid has caused me any issues with flower longevity or quantity.

Others may have different thoughts :)

In general, I keep on fertilizing. I do stop if it the highs are in the 60's or lower.
