Bosch warming drawer problems?

last modified: 7 years ago

We in are in the midst of a kitchen renovation and our contractor (who is thought to be the best in our area) overlooked a design problem. We are installing a Bosch induction cooktop and a warming drawer below (not directly because we will allow for proper ventilation). There will be either space (based on manufacturer's specs) or a shallow drawer directly below cooktop and then the warming drawer. We had originally chosen a different warming drawer with a handle (characteristic of most warming drawers), but we also have a Bishop "magic" corner cabinet next to the cooktop/warming drawer area. We were away when cabinet installation was done, but cooktop and warming drawer had not yet been installed. When we returned, my husband (an engineer) noticed that the presence of a handle on the warming drawer did not allow complete opening the the door of the cabinet. The only warming drawer without a handle that I have been able to find is the Bosch 500 (30" for us). However, in reading reviews, I have seen several mentions of problems with breakage of the under-drawer release latch, the drawer rails, or the drawer locking mechanism. I would like to hear others' experiences, particularly if you have had the drawer for a while. Another possibility is to find a drawer with a handle that sticks out less than 4" (including width of handle.) That's how much clearance we have. Also, any other recommendations if you have them.

Thanks in advance!
