As much as I like the navy blue but it’s a huge commitment I’ve seen many designers painting only the bottom cabinets blue but the top white if I were you I’ll wait for a designer to tell you what to do exactly

Yes yes yes in navy if that’s what you love. It would look fabulous and navy is always on trend. Use a navy with a lot of black in it. Sorry my BM color deck is at the office. Antique brass is on trend right now so maybe some hardware in that? When it goes out you just change it out :)

Your counters look to be Corian and your cabinets appear to be in great shape. Before spending lots of money ripping out what's there, have you thought about painting the walls Navy instead? Get a sample of paint and paint up some poster boards. Cut them to size and tape them on your soffit and backsplash to see if you'd like it. Just a thought. Here's a picture - not the best example - your cabinets and counter are much nicer.

How particular are you about your finishes? Those cabinets appear to be in excellent condition. I'm not for or against painting your cabinets. What I'm against is well made cabinets getting ruined by bad paint jobs. It is a big commitment either financially (if you have them professionally done - spraying recommended) or in time to do it correctly and not have them coming out looking like you and your friends had a cabinet painting party while eating pizza and drinking beer.

The web is littered with blogs full of bad advice for cabinet makeovers. Many people don't care about the quality of their finish as long as it's all the same color. They use brushes and rollers and introduce a variety of different textures that just look bad. They also advocate using latex paint rather than an oil or waterborne alkyd. And don't get me started on Cover Stain or Kilz.

The only way to paint them yourself, if you don't have a sprayer is with a brush. Rollers - even foam rollers - are for walls only. They are not for millwork and case goods - unless you like the look of roller stipple and want to ruin thousands of dollars of cabinetry.

It takes lots of time and lots of room to paint the doors. You need lots of patience. That is - if you want to do it right and have them coming out looking beautiful and professionally done.

This is the best DIY instructions that I've found. I've done many cabinets myself, so I know she knows her stuff!

If you follow her tutorial to the tee, you'll have very nice looking, and long lasting, paint coverage.

Before doing anything change the lighting and remember the darker the color the better the lighting needs to be a track light with LED bulbs in 3500-5000K range will be an affordable choice .Something like this will be enough light in that space

I absolutely love navy kitchens.

Regarding paint, I have used General Finishes milk paint. No, it's not real milk paint but rather dries as hard as enamel and is indoor/outdoor approved. It requires minimal prep and holds up great. (I know I sound like a commercial).

We think if you want to do navy, you can, however you have a small kitchen. So we recommend not doing all of it navy. It might make your kitchen look smaller. We like Beth's idea of only painting the lower cabinets navy. We would change your lighting (overhead/under cabinet), paint, get new hardware, and look into good paint options for the cabinets if you are painting them yourself.

To follow up. The cabinets will be professionally painted. The walls have just been painted

BM white dove. Not too happy with it ... looks too yellow. Any suggestions for a colour.

The navy blue would look good as no you do not really want to go white as your appliances are white and you said counter and back splash white also! One pure white kitchen, no contrast at all. Yes do change the wall color if painting them blue.

Don't go a white color. Possibly a very light gray color. What is your floor product and color?

Go a little lighter then the tile. Your Blue cabinets will enhance the contrast of the kitchen as your eyes will go to them with an accent of the flooring as your counter top and back splash will level the tone in the room.

I suggest BM Hale Navy if you want a subtle kinda muddy navy or old Navy is a great bluer navy but lighting is going to make a huge difference. Try whatever you choose on a poster board (yes I actually do this when deciding on saturated colors)
Decorators white has less yellow than dove white.
A light taupe always looks nice with navy and white. A little green in the taupe.

BM Oxford White is suggested. But before you paint, I would recheck lighting. Lighting has a huge impact on your tones of white, and all colors actually.
