I think the first thing I would do is get a rug you like that has the colors you want. The gray/aqua/blue idea is a good one, as long as it doesn't go too pastel. Then let the rug drive the decisions on bedding and curtains. Those panels aren't adding anything to the decor, IMO. If you're going to have panels, I'd think about making them stationary and pushing them to each side of the window, i.e. the left panel goes to the left and the right panel goes to the right. Then add a white blackout roller shade for privacy at night. If the rug has a lot of pattern to it, keep the bedding simple. Solid colors with a layered, textured look.

Lastly, the headboard is too high to have the mirror on top. I think I'd hang the mirror over the tall dresser instead.

I plan on removing the mirror... that was there from before and I don't have a place for it at the moment... I don't know if a rug will be in the mix-- we got rid of carpet in that room to reduce allergens so a rug would kind of be counter productive to that... but there are bamboo roman shades under those curtains. They were just closed at the moment because we were trying to see where the bed was in relation to the window openings. This picture was taken 5 minutes after getting the bed and putting bedding on it... which is why I am trying to figure out what kind of linens to get ! :)

Some thoughts:

--What about a solid mustard gold bedspread with a charcoal throw folded at the end of the bed or linens like these? Because the headboard is so tall you need some lightness and contrast.Here's a gray/mustard combination

--Curtains should be much more substantial and hung near the ceiling. Plain white linen or a white and gray stripe would give you a clean look.

--Get matching nightstands for each side of the bed to give you some symmetry. Ditto with bedside lamps.

--Art works for over the bed would bring color and interest into your room. Landscapes that pull you into the picture--and toward bed--can be dreamy for over the bed.

--Don't get too carried away with the gray-top furniture painting. Plain white is soothing and doesn't break up the visual field.

P.S. If the mustard gold doesn't suit you, certain blues work with gray. But the gold is sophisticated and bring golden light into your gray room.

I'd like to also add that our "style" is a cross between coastal and transitional as we live in Southeast Louisiana and are beach people. :)

Sorry, but your choice of the dark gray headboard and gray-topped furniture don't seem beachy just kind of dark.

Here are some patterned bedspreads with a bit of gray since you have the oversized gray headboard. These would balance out all that dark gray as would some very pale gold curtains or off-white linen curtains.

Back with an update!

We were able to move our nightstands back into the room. I was also able to start putting together blue & white bedding to see how it would look, as I already had some components on hand and I was able to scoop up a quilt the other day that I really liked the texture and colors of. You can also see the night stands and how they look with the bed. We had to top them with grey in order to cover up some damage to the tops as we were repainting them. The other option was to sand and re-stain them, and we were trying to avoid that. So far, I'm liking how the blue & white is coming together. In order to complete the look, I am thinking that a blue comforter and blue shams with some sort of textural look would be a great final touch, along with a few new throw pillows to pull it together on the bed. The coverlet in the last picture is a very light one that I had in storage that I just put there temporarily to visualize a blue comforter until I can settle on one. I was also thinking of switching out the sheets to a pale aqua or grey to add interest to the bed. Future plans also include changing out the lamps or repainting the bases antique gold or something to bring some warmth and such to the room.. but I'd like to get the bed figured out first! :)

PS we got the bed this past weekend, and I LOVE it! It was a great buy!

I really love the look of the navy chenille in the picture, but I'm worried about it looking dark in the room but then at the same time, all of the furniture will be white, etc... soooo??

Next step will be window treatments... which I need to figure out as well... but I'd like to get the bed figured out first!

Any thoughts? I've kind of pulled this color palette together.. so I'm going to try to pull it all together with this. This particular artist even sells throw pillows of this painting... so that's a thought.

I think all your possible choices are lovely. The bed and side tables look great. For me, the biggest challenge to the look you are going for is the drapes. Your bedding is going to look luxurious, but the drapes as they are do not. Would you consider doing something like this? Filling that whole wall with draperies and hanging them closer to the ceiling will really set off your headboard and make the whole wall more cohesive.

I don't think the mister will go for it... but I am definitely considering raising up the curtain rods almost to the ceiling, getting new ones that are more gold toned, as well as pull back doodads, but I am not sure of color/texture/print. What color bedding?
