I have very limited experience, but I unwrapped after the graft had obviously taken and started growing.

3 weeks is fine in cool environment and in the summer I unwrap 2-2.5 weeks( no direct sun on grafts though). Only my approach graft I have kept unwrapped for about two months now.

Thanks everyone. I'm not very confident about my grafting. It is a new thing for me, and I'm afraid I'm not very good at it. So I may leave them wrapped as Jaydub suggested. Maybe I'll get lucky and at least one of them will take.

Might depend on where you live. Plant outside or inside? Actively growing or somewhat dormant? In summer, I give my T-bud grafts about 3-4 weeks before checking. If buds are still green, then unwrap.

In winter, I will not check them until 4 or 5 weeks.

Dave, the avocado plants are in my greenhouse. Rarely below 45 degrees fahrenheit at night. 60 to 80 degrees during the day. And both trees were in active growth. I live in southwest Arkansas. I used one of the grafting tools (that are like pliers). A saddle graft? I think that is what you call it. I wrapped the entire scion in parafilm. I tried bud grafting pear tree in the summer, as I had read, but only one took, and it later died. So my grafting skills aren't that great. Sigh.....
