Eva, I like all your rug choices. And a plain gray entry rug could team with any of them. However, can you give us a shot from the dining area so we can see how the living area relates to the entry?

If possible, I'd like to see the chair relocated so traffic doesn't pass in front of it, and your living area rug to be sized to give you a walkway on the left from front door to dining room.

Oh my groveraxle, please show me how you did that rendering, what software did you use? That could be the answer to my not knowing how things will look in the space!

The entry door opens up straight to that sitting area with the blue couch. Also, there is another sitting/play space right next to it that right now has a huge grey rug. So I want to get a new rug that compliments those grey tones.

Eva, I see that you posted this house a long time ago when you were trying to figure out seating arrangements. It seems you removed a little wall next to the front door. I never realized you had a whole other area to the side. (I like your eclectic style, BTW.)

I use Photoshop to render the rug in your room, but there are some rug sites online that will do it for you. Not sure which ones they are--I'll see if I can find one for you--and their work is not as precise as mine, but they're good enough to give you a sense of how a rug will look.

Yes! I also opened up the stairs (which still needs finishing up but we just had a huge winter storm and not feeling like doing carpentry work at the moment).

The debate for my other post was wether to try to make both areas one, or to leave them as separate. After a lot of playing around with furniture placement, things flow much better with the two areas. I have made the adjacent one, the place where I hang out with my 1 year old on the floor and have toys, etc. And the blue couch is where I sit with friends when they visit or where I lounge when my folks are watching tv or playing with the baby themselves. It works very well actually.

Little by little I’m chomping at it. I would like to finish the stairs, add a built in bookcase to the play area (don’t like the idea of just staring at the TV)...and I really want to give a good unified feel to the blue couch sitting area with a nice encompassing rug and a nice cute entryway. I think the rugs will be the one touch to bring everything together.

Oh, photoshop...I should try once and for all to learn it. How quickly can you do that? Is there a possibility that you could also do it with the other rug options I provided?

This is so interesting, looking at the rugs prior to your work, I would have gone for your #2 rendering, thinking I wanted that pop of yellow, but now that I see them in place, I’m leaning towards #4, I’m really liking how the soft pink makes the red more gentle. And I love the throw you chose! So I guess my color pallet is primarily, blue, red and black with hints of green and pink. Letting that sink in for a bit.

How about the entry way rug? Should I go for a solid color? Don’t want to overdo the patterns. Could I get away with the jute I have right now?

Photoshop has a pretty steep learning curve, not worth learning if you're not going to use it a lot.

Waterhog doormats from LLBean are really practical and come in semi custom sizes....I would look at those from the front door area.

Here is the best one I could fine on sale. Luckily I can return it in the store if it doesn’t work. What do you guys think? I kind of like it, it’s growing on me. Although I may upholster that chair with a different fabric so it doesn’t clash with too many pattern things.

Thanks guys! I actually had to move the chair closer to the couch to make it fit in the rug. So I’ll have another design challenge coming soon on what to do with that corner now.
