Not weird at all - it's what I did in both of my remodeled bathrooms.

We are remodeling our master bath--and I hate towel racks, too! I'm thinking of using hooks--but something attached to a decorative shelf--kind of like this:

I will most likely have a shelf custom made, and use larger, sturdier hooks that will hold the towels well. We live in a dry climate, so I'm not worried about our towels staying damp.

I did this as well, towell ring near sink, command hook in cupboard for vanity wipe, I had 3 decorative hooks between door and tub. I did often find myself throwing thick towels over the shower rod, but I will be rehanging my hooks again and removing bar all over again (next month, new rental). not wierd at all to me and I still thought it was pretty. wish I had pic, but I had to rehab genetic apt. junk.

Decorative towels are up there with decorative Kleenex boxes and dolls with skirts hiding toilet paper rolls...

Whatever works for you. I like towel bars but I actually hang the towels I use daily on them, not for decorative purposes ..... I think towel hooks look messy to me, but each to their own.

We don't do decorative towels, but we use racks for our bath towels. I haven't personally used hooks (we are worried about towels drying), but we are thinking about doing this in our new bathroom due to lack of wall space for racks. Do towels dry ok on hooks?

I don't know how you don't have towel bars in a bathroom. And I don't understand not using the towels that are hanging from them. I like to double up the towels so there is plenty of clean,dry room so they don't need to be washed as often. Just conversely, I hate towel rings, I think that's a dated look and because the towels on them are smaller I think it's not as sanitary. And I don't hang towels for the shower. Towels hanging on hooks looks messy and not clean. Clean bath towels are folded in the cabinet and once used they go to the laundry basket.
