Oversized master

Im struggling with our master bedroom. It’s too big and awkward. Whats the best design and use for this space.

Hubby and I talked about walling off the other side (Where you see the addition was added, the wall sticks out near the desk) and putting large sliding barn doors and making the other part an office/nook area. My only problem with that is that you then need to walk through the nook to get to the bathroom and closet. That doesn’t seem practical to me. I really wanted to center the bed in between the windows but the walls not aligning mean that won’t work. Help?!?!

Can you put a shelf or headboard behind the bed so the bed is centered between the windows as you wish and part of behind the headboard is a shelf to fill the extra depth behind the part of the bed against the deeper wall. I will try to find pic. I had to do something like this this since there are built in reading lights on the wall behind our bed we kept bumping into. So I put an Ikea Brimnes headboard type thing with shelves to the side. Or a book case. You can use lower shelves for storage or to hide things you have to move the bed for and use the upper shelves. I do not think I would mind the asymmetry. In other words, put the bed where you want it and fill in the space behind it. You would loose one half of the shelves that are against the wall on the side of the bed that is touching the actual wall.

Here is what I have (not my room). It is just the headboard and we put it behind our existing bed that did not have a headboard.

Here is another type item that could fill the gap behind the headboard if you center the bed where you want it.

That is a lot of doors and odd angles. It looks like there might be room to do a free standing headboard/cabinet that could divide the nook from the rest of the room. It could then be used as a separate dressing area, the bath could be easily accessed, and you wouldn't be looking into the bath from the bed.

Yeah DM that’s kinda what our plan way. To divide off each side of the room with siding doors. That way we still have access and can open it up if we want

Do you have, or could draw, a plan of this floor (bedroom and all the others rooms and closets those doors lean into)?

I wasn't thinking barn doors. They take up too much wall space that could be used for art or furniture. The headboard/cabinet wouldn't have to go all the way to the ceiling and would have openings to the nook on both sides. Of course you could do a complete wall and maybe pocket doors.

I would try to get the wall you want to put your headboard on straightened out and put a neat wood finish on the wall. Even if you lose that space. Continue the fill in until the window but that still would leave the strange beam hanging down over your bed? But here is the photo idea for that

Or I like DM's idea of a freestanding headboard that divides the room with paths on both sides to the bathroom. This example has a staircase behind it!
