Judith , it’s a great place to order from . They are smaller than brushwood or silver star , but bigger than a bagged root at Home Depot. I have to take my kiddo to a birthday party ( groooan) but I’ll look for pics later if I saved them . For the price it’s excellent.

I’d love to know what you got! I have a couple from brushwood I want and a couple from silver star . I ordered lucky charm and Jenny from brushwood. Silver star I would love huldine , sky fall and maybe Paul farges but no idea where that giant would go . I am really running Low on places to plop them !

I ordered three from Donahue's last year (Huldine, Rhapsody, Hagley Hybrid) and they were excellent! Once I got them in the ground they started growing well and all bloomed a bit (actually they started growing like crazy immediately - in the house). And they came so fast, and in perfect condition. Only problem - I ordered early, not realizing they would come right away... then had to keep them indoors until the weather cooperated. I'm in KC... and we have winter weather sometimes into April.

Actually, I'm planning to place another order... I'll probably start another thread about that because I need a little help choosing.

Also - anyone ever order from Hummingbird?

Many of the other nurseries buy from Donahue's. They pot them up and sell them for more....

I have gotten dozens of clems from Donahues, after exhausting my local sources (which I prefer, so I can see the actual flowers), as well as a few from Joy Creek and Silver Star Vinery that Donahues didn't have. All have been healthy, nicely packaged, and as others have mentioned, the size of the $12 ones at Donahues will be smaller. Donahues has been helpful when I've had questions, and is easy to work with. Probably JC and SSV are too, but I didn't have any questions for them. Since I've fallen in love with this plant, and keep finding new places to put more, I'd rather pay less and pot them up for a few months, so they can toughen up and survive the moles, voles, rabbits, and chipmunks that either like roots, like to dig, or like tender new shoots. We have a wooded lot, so lots of small creatures to contend with.
