Granite names needed...

last modified: 7 years ago

I need to pick out my countertop and wanted names of granite that would look good with white cabinets.

The cabinet colors that are available are: Sw Snowbound and SW bright white. I am not positive that I will do white, but am considering it. I will be going to slab yard and wanted suggestions of names of granite that might work for us.

Names might not help you because some slab yards get creative and make up their own names!

There aren't too many colors that don't look fine with white. You just need to watch the undertones (cool vs warm)

Have you thought about what type of backsplash you might like? If you are drawn to more color and pattern in your backsplash, then you want to look for more quiet slabs.

That might be true of some whites, but these two are what my cabinet company uses and I'm having more trouble putting slabs with these two. I have had a white kitchen before with a dark countertop and was hoping to go with a more soft feel rather than contrast. My floor is hardwood and will stay that way.

There are 'undertones' in the paint - a 'cool' undertone will not look good with a 'warm' sort of granite. You need to get a cabinet door (as a sample) and take with you to the yard.

There are lots and lots of granite that will look good with white cabinets. If you pick a granite with a lot of movement/colors you should consider a backsplash that is very plain/simple/quiet. If you want a 'busy' backsplash you will need a plain/quiet granite.

Go do lots of looking and make certain to 'test' the material to be certain you know what it actually is. Unfortunately, 'names' really don't mean very much.

Snowbound is very similar to Origami White (which is the color of my cabinets). I went with Everest White, but I also considered Blue Splendor, Alaska White, Delicatus, Crema Brazil, and Snowfall. All of those have a lot of movement and will not work if you're going for simple.

Alaska White is beautiful with white cabinets and wood floors. Do bring cabinet doors painted in those colors (or boards painted in those colors) as well as a board from your flooring to a stone yard so that you can hold them up to each slab you like (regardless of the name) to see if you like the look. There really is no substitute to seeing everything together in person.
