You do not have a lot of choices for layout. And in additional it is rental so you can not do a lot.

I believe the bed is a full or queen. We only have the mattress so far. I was thinking of possibly getting a platform storage bed frame, so the room looks a little bigger (since it'll be lower). I'm open to suggestion though. Besides that, no furniture.

I agree with Molly. Center the bed add simple side tables with no detail, and yes, great idea on low bed, no head board, or detail so those things don't visually take up space.

Mount small reading lights on wall above side tables to free up space on your small side tables.

With that double closet you might be able to getaway with a small chest of drawers in each closet since storage drawers under bed won't have much/enough clearance to function if bed centered on wall. (You've got to center it so both you and your boyfriend can get in and out of bed without climbing over each other.) If the closet has one bar hung 2/3 way up, remove it and rehang it high and add one low for extra hanging storage. The lower bar can be split to accommodate the small chest of drawers.

And paint the walls a nice calm neutral.

My daughter's room in our basement is very similar. Centering the bed is not an option and still walk on either side and access the closets. I see you have baseboard heat so I might try a bed that is taller legged so the heat can circulate. Toning the paint will help.

Get a storage bed with a headboard that has shelves. There are a lot of options. I got one from a friend who was moving, and we love it. While there are some expensive elaborate ones, there are also cheaper versions. You might be able to find one used. My husband put risers on our bed frame so I could fit storage containers underneath. That way you can center the bed.

Is that a basement bedroom? I am not seeing an egress window in your photos and I would be concerned about access to an emergency exit. Unless you have a regular window elsewhere in the room, be sure to position your furniture so you can climb out through a window if necessary. Also check to make sure the windows open and you don't have any issues getting them to function.

We had a rental years ago that had those ugly closet doors. We took them down and used a tension rod and curtain instead. It's a quick/cheap fix. (that only wil work if you have somewhere to store the doors though)
