do you think the hearts and surround materials of a fireplace need to match? We have square tiles on the surround and right now the wood just goes up to the fireplace there's no hearth. I would like to use River Rock for the hearth on the floor in front of the fireplace. do you think that's weird and I should just try to find matching tiles? here's a photo of the fireplace with the river rock I just picked up at Home Depot to try out, laid out on the floor in front of it.
