While it could have been used as a foot bath there were also things called sitz baths that were used for various health problems like hemorrhoids. I have only seen drawings of older movable ones but this is very similar to those.

I think Crane does make bathroom items.....check it out on the internet...maybe you will find the company...

Of course, Crane makes (or made) bathroom items! We had a Crane factory near here -- I believe they made toilets.

Lovemrmewey, the shaped one shown above by emho23, and in the above illustration on the left side is a sitz bath. The more squared off one shown in the illustration I posted is a foot bath.

Victorians were filthy folks, (by today's standards) but not as bad as some think. A bath a couple times a month was a necessity, and sitz baths were common (“Unmentionable: The Victorian Lady’s Guide to Sex, Marriage, and Manners.”)

Foot washing was recommended to be done daily according to the Columbia Cookbook (1892)

I don't have the second book, it's from an online resource, but I do have "Unmentionable"...a lot of fun reading!

If the OP’s Crane fixture is similar to the one posted by emho23, then maifleur01 is correct - it’s a sitz bath. I do remember being encouraged to take Sitz baths after giving birth, but these were taken in a regular tub. Very warm/hot water was healing for the stitches, etc.
