So sorry I didn't get this until after I returned. I was by the table today, shortly. Dark-haired (what there is of it) slenderish (well, used to be) guy wearing a leather bomber jacket. I may have had a wild look in my eye as well. My first orchid show in several years. I didn’t know whether to [CENSORED] or go blind. I asked about where the lectures were being held. Anyway, enjoyed the show immensely. And gorgeous, gorgeous display too. So many stunning plants in the display that I hesitate to say I was especially knocked back on my heels by the Paphs. I'd go back tomorrow if I could face the drivers down there. Everyone drives like bats out of hell, or maybe I’m just getting old. I lost track of a couple of plants too, Wah! A gorgeous little Paph. venustum alba from Marlowes. Hoping they might still have the bag. Anyway, thanks for responding. Wonderful show!

The Paph's in the DCOS Display mostly come from two members. One of them grows Paph's exclusively. He does it under lights. He has some exceptional plants and always has a plant that gets an award.

I can tell you this, the guys in the club that have the nicest plants feed the heck out of them.

Mike - I know what you mean. I could hardly believe my eyes seeing these gorgeous paphs. They’re like jewels. But you know, the goal is to get better all the time. You're on the path. You'll get there. After seeing the paphs in that show, I'm tempted to specialize my collection mostly to Paphs. One of my two bedrooms is used as study. Who needs a study anyway? I can close it off completely. It has two windows (not for light, but fresh air and climate control), and a long baseboard heating duct, which can be adjusted. So I can really take the night temperatures down in there in the cool months, and exclude, or control A/C in there in the summer. Lots of fresh air year-round. Best of all, there's a wall-to-wall waist-height bookcase. The top of it just runs straight from one wall to another, a freaking 11 feet long and 12" wide. Nice for a diverse collection of paphs under lights. I can feel my heart-beat racing !! Thanks for your patience in reading this. I’m talking myself into this idea, in the guise of a post.

John, you crack me up! I felt that same way. In fact, I saw an almost extremely black flower one with the weirdest colors on display. What a beauty. I then turned around and saw only one left for sale just like it. I said" well, it's not fragrant" and moved on. Within 5 minutes I decided to get it just to find out is was sold.lol Just like that, lost forever. I would of bought the darn thing it was so different.

Sounds like you have a place in the making buddy!.lol

Thanks for the pics, Mike. Especially like the bottom two, and especially the one on the right in the last pic. Beautiful subtle colors. I also like the more vivid “bulldogs”. Lots of mahogony coloration, vivid stripes, etc. I probably need therapy – I’m beginning to see faces in these things, and they’re all smiling. “Buy me, buy me.”

John, Iknow. I came so CLOSE to getting my first one and yet, when I went back, it was gone((( The bud was as black as midnight and teh leaves almost a rich dark looking variegated mahogony. I should of snapped that one up.lol

PipingRocks sells them, lots of them! He's at every Orchid show. Watch for him He is a great guy.
