Hibiscus longevity questions

last modified: 7 years ago

Hello to all,

Planted 8 hibiscus in summer of 2015..first 2 yrs we received a lot of flowers. We have also had 2 hard freezes that required cutting them back as low as possible. what grew from there was from very short stock.

Currently, no hard freezes but some short term hi 20's and low 30's but not enough for a major kill-back, just the tips/edges. Some new growth is coming out, but nothing major bc it's on and off cold and the sun has been scarce in West Houston.

For those that live in the SW US or similar environments, how long do hibiscus last before they need to be pulled up? Is there anything that can be done to rejuvenate them based on the above description? They receive early morning sunshine till about 1-2pm, but when they got 7-8ft tall, more sun on the tips. Note, these are all in the ground

Thanks and pls advise, tstex
