We are in a beach area condo in Florida and replacing the flooring (currently combo of tile and carpet). We will be using luxury vinyl plank (LVP) as I am interested in ease of upkeep and water tolerance. Now, the decisions must be made on glue down vs floating, sound barriers, straightline vs diagonal installation, etc.

Gluedown vs floating: The floors will be installed on concrete floors. Initially our flooring person recommended gluedown due to my concerns about noise down to the condo below, but I am very concerned that the gluedown will result in a harder surface than a floating floor. I have had floating floors in the past and didn't find it as hard a a tile floor. What is the feel of the gluedown vs floating floor? I don't want to feel that I'm walking on hard tile or concrete.

Soundbarriers: Some of the planks come with integrated sound pads and some would require a separate sheet installed under the tiles. What is you experience and cost difference with one vs the other?

Straightline vs diagonal install: A diagonal install would break up the "bowling alley" look as you enter our condo. What are the pros/cons of diagonal vs straightline in terms of installation, length of runs, etc. Is diagonal installation appropriate for a floating installation?

This is my first of what will be many, many questions as we approach this remodel (next up is kitchen cabinet decisions). I look forward to all your help with the myriad decisions in my future.
