Brad, I like the Vermonts you got from Celeste. Do you have a favorite of these? I’m wondering about latest and best bloomer.

Sherry, this was my first year for these; they did well for a first year plant. The one that did best was Autumn Fire, and according to Celeste, it is a bloom machine. The Last Melon was the latest and she said it too is a bloom machine. As to my favorite either Fondly Kin or Sept. Star.

I have just a few V's.

Velvet Beads has been in the garden for many years.

Venus Flytrap is a great grower here.

I love the color on Victoria Lynette.

Velvet Eyes is one of my favorites. It's a small flower but I love the red and black color.

Here is a seedling from Velvet Eyes. The other parent is unknown.

Nancy: That seedling from Velvet Eyes is pretty and so is Victoria Lynette. Brad: I like all the VT lates, but VT The Last Melon, if it held that delicate color in our heat, would be my favorite. I just wrote a big paragraph about the VT Olallie daylilies along with their photos, hit 'submit' and it all disappeared. This is the 4th time this has happened. I'll try one photo to test it....and if that loads then I'll try some more. So much work for nothing is frustrating!

Ok, I give up. I will try again tomorrow. Either it's my computer or Houzz again but I have spent a half hour working hard, trying to submit my photos and it's not working. I don't know why it accepted my one photo but not the others.

Celeste, as you may have seen, it took 2 & 3 tries for my posts to go through. They finally went through when I shrank the pictures. Betsy is very nice.

I will try for one and that's OK as it is one of my favorites. Is it short, as in, blooms in foliage-yes; does it need to be in front of the bed-yes; but, is it almost perfect in every bloom-YES!! And that is why I keep it.

Here are the Vs that I grow:

VG OH HAPPY DAY: I love the color and pattern, but it tends to bloom in the foliage. I may move it to a sunnier spot.

VG STARBRIGHT: This was taken in the early evening. This is a fantastic plant. It is tall and handles growing in the shade. I love the piecrust edging. It was in the top 5 this past year in my garden.

VERTICAL HORIZON: Great plant. I always forget about using it in my hybriding efforts as it sits in an out of the way area. I will have to make note of it this year.

VISION SEEKER: Fantastic in a pot. It made it in the ground this past spring. I am anxious to see it over the next few years. I should cross it with VERTICAL HORIZON.

Although purples and off whites aren't my favorite colors, some of the daylilies posted here with those colors are gems. Voila Francois always seems to have a balanced round form with the ruffles I love. And speaking of ruffles David, I love that shot of VG Starbright. Celeste, VT Bridal Lilac is on my want list; it is so pretty. I think I just decided to put VT RR Red on it too! It is a nice shade of red. I was so pleased with the VTs that bloomed this year-so pretty and really helped extend my season.

Celeste , you grow such wonderful purples. I love Victorian Christmas ! Your others are lovely too but the purples have my heart I guess. Not sure what you have in your soil there but Wow ! just Wow! Oh forgot to mention I love VT Last Melon too. Who hybridizes the VT daylilies ?

Brad, I can probably share some with you in the fall. I have so much catching up on garden work that didn't get done last year because of my accident and I'm still recuperating so spring is going to be crazy busy. But if you want a piece of those two I can send some in the fall. Thanks, signet! I have had so much trouble posting my photos lately that I gave up for awhile....but I had written a paragraph discussing the VT daylilies and then I lost it. But to summarize: The VT of course stands for Vermont where they are hybridized at Olallie Gardens by the Darrow family. The ones I grow are all late and very-late blooming daylilies and are rock-solid hardy. The ones I show are not registered so they can't be looked up on the database and I don't know if they are available in Canada. I have a few more that I tried to upload photos of and *if* I can, I will try to share them.

Brad, I forgot to mention that VT RR Red and VT Butterscotch Harvest are the very latest blooming in my garden. They start in September and are often blooming until the beginning of October when the leaves are turning colors!

Yes, it's supposed to start tonight. And then more predicted on Sunday. But I am leaving Friday to drive to Florida with my son and his family so I will miss the next one. It will be nice to enjoy some sunshine and warmth! I keep trying to upload more photos but it may or may not happen today.

Celeste, Your Fondly Kin looks a lot different that the one I posted. Is yours always so recurved? Mine never is.

Brad, Fondly Kin can have different looks. Some days it looks just like your photo and other days it recurves like the above. I haven't paid attention to the weather conditions when it's one way or the other but that might be a factor. Obviously it is much colder here when it's blooming (since it will bloom into September and our Septembers can get cold at night). It's a bit of a chameleon, throwing different forms day to day for me. It's interesting that yours is stable.

Nancy, does your Vintage Wine do well like mine does--reliable, good bloomer, only fades when really hot, increases well?

Vintage Wine did very well for me, til I got the bright idea to put it in afternoon shade. I thought the color might hold better, and it does, but it does not seem to bloom nearly as much. It was in all day full sun, and held up better than most others of similar color. I meant to move it last fall, but I don't think I got around to it. I also lost part of it after last spring.

You just never know what daylilies will need full sun and which can do well with some shade except by trial and error.
