Anyone!

Most Canna rhizomes usually will start to show points/eyes (where re-growth will come out). If/when you see them (points/eyes), you can plant the rhizome with them pointing up. Most of the time a canna rhizome can be planted and the point/eyes know which way to grow. Good luck!

That is one funky-looking canna rhizome. It looks like a muddy pineapple! ha! Anyways...in the first picture it looks almost like the area on the top looks a bit like where a stem may have been cut off. Can you tell if that is the base of a stem?

I agree with Kent, can you clean off any of that matter, it doesn't look like any canna rhizome I've ever had. I have to say "Thank You", your post reminded me to take my seeds out of the bottom of my refrigerator and get them planted.

That sort of looks like the rhizome of a water lily.
