QOTD....Top threads

Hello, When you quilt on a domestic machine, not long arm, and your quilting starts and stops, do you snip the threads from the quilt top, or sew the loose threads to the back and then snip? A little tough to explain, so here’s a pic of loose top threads. I always use a lock stitch at the start and stop of the stitch line, but still have those threads on top that must go! How do you handle?

I also use a lock stitch and just clip them. You can also run them into the batting.

My machine has two different lock stitches, one for regular sewing and one for quilting, which is a finer one. And if I use the thread cutter, the threads are pulled to the back, then I just snip the tails off. But for the start of the row, it just gets snipped from the front and I pray the lock stitch holds.

My quilts are what I call utility quilts so I don't obsess over them but when I make a special quilt, I would pull those threads to the back, knot and bury.

I knot about 1/2" up and pop the knot into the batting. It's lots of extra work, but I sure wouldn't want something to come undone.
